well i had cleaned by benjamin 392 the night before and put a small drop on the pivot points and some pellet gun oil on the seal. i noticed today when i looked at it that all the air that i had put in it before putting it away leaked out. I am pretty sure it had leaked for a while but jut have never noticed it. Should i send it off to mac 1 airguns and get a steroid tune? of course i could buy a new one for that price. Is there any fixes that i could do.

You could get the reseal kit from PA and fix it yourself. The steroid would be pretty awesome too though, just depends on how good you are at diy and how much you want to spend.

Do any of yall know what seals probably gone if i pump up the gun and its not cocked then i come back cock the hammer and when i go to fire i just hear the hammer. Also i seem to have to have a fast pump stroke to get air

I think my seals might have just gotten dry. I put a ton of pelletgun oil around the seals in the pump that create the compression. It held air for a hour which it wasnt doing prevouisley, also the gun know feels like its brand knew and takes much more force to pump know to see if it well hold air for 3 hours. If it does I well put 6 pumps in it and let the gun set 24 hours. if all the air is held i think i probably fixed the issue. I well post updates. Who knew just lots of pelletgun oil could be the fix.

Glad you seem to have got it working again. If the seals get dried out then a little extra pellgun oil will usually do the trick. If you still have problems with it you can re-seal it yourself. Parts are cheap and it's not hard to do. You don't even need any special tools.

okay. am still letting it set to make sure. if i have to use a whole thing of pelletgunoil to get the seals working thats fine with me. I still want a steroid streak though at somepoint with a pistol scope mounted. Though it does make diffrent noise during the first 2 pumps though it makes a sorta squeaking sound. The pump stroke is smoothe though. Is that normal or should i be concerned?

My 392 sorta squeaks sometimes. It doesn't seem to hurt performance.

I'd like a Steroid 'streak too. Those are nice guns!

I guess i have a thing for pumpers. Though looking at your list you have a pretty good collection. I want to purchase a crossman 2100 for backyard shooting.

I've had a 2100 since 1984-85 and I still enjoy it. I took my first few squirrels with it as a kid. I had to replace the pump seal a couple of years ago. I also replaced the barrel, which was shot out from many thousands of BBs. Next, I plan on finishing up the mods on my spare valve I got for it and seeing what kind of velocity I can get. I think I'll make a flat top piston too. Lucky me, Redwood plastics is just 10 minutes from my house. Wonder if I can get some phenolic rod from them?

How quite is a 2100. Would a 1377 flat top piston and valve work.

A 1377 valve and piston would not be an exact fit in a 2100. It *might* be possible to modify them to work.

Ok well for my uses the stock power would be fine. Its bigges use would be backyard plinking and target shooting along with the ocasional pest sence everything i have heard says they are real accurate within 25 yards or so if i could push it to 30 it would be great but 25 is all i really need.

My 766 from 1980, grandfather of the 2100, is easily the quietest air rifle I own, by a lot.
It also surprises me with its accuracy and velocity for the price.
2 pump = 409, good indoor
3 pump = 495, better indoor
5 pump = 590, best indoor, cuts the paper better
7 pump = 650.

When I resurected it from 29 years in the closet, it would leak air overnite.
Since at that time it was the only gun I could shoot indoors, I just 'Pellgun Oil'd it and after a couple of weeks it was holding air indefinately.

My '75 Blue Streak, purchased about 4 months ago, also looses its air overnite if I only pump it once. But if I pump it twice, it holds the air for days. ??

I always put 3 pumps in my benjamin. seams to keep air that way it has lasted 2 days so no complaints. Just need to resight it in. How accurate is your 766. I plan on putting a muzzle mack barrel stabilizer when i buy the 2100 on it and possibly recrowing the barrel.

I am a big fan of pumpers too. it kinda reminds me of when I was a young man. i recently bought a daisy 880, and have a 22sg on its way. after Christmas and the holidays, I am going to do one of 3 things:
1. disco with pump
2. mark I > LD pistol from mac1
3. Steroid Benjamin w/every possible option including polished brass finish....

I think I'm really leaning towards the steroid benji honestly. I saw a video review that showed a chrony of a benjamin 392 vs. a Steroid 392, comparing chrony and fpe numbers and it totally showed that the steroid produces 24 Foot lbs of energy!!! which is nearly twice the power of the already powerful 392, and (pretty much) just as powerful as the disco PCP!!! that is truly amazing.

Having said that: I would strongly advise you to still send in your benji for conversion, or keep it and get a steroid anyway. below are 2 links (if you haven't seen them yet).

-the first one is for mac1 steroid info showing the prices for the options and details etc. (its really not that expensive if you buy the gun from them) first off they charge 130 for a stock 392 which is 20$ less than PA charges. so you can look at it as being 20$ off of the 45$ steroid conversion which in turn comes out to only being 25$ more than regular price, for the steroid tune. (if you send in YOUR gun for conversion they charge 75$ for just the steroid tune) Then there are sights to be considered (peep sight etc), as well as the breech modified by them cutting a dovetail rail into it is another 25$ option I think, there are billett pumparms, or even extended billitt pump arms...there is even an option for finish types. you can have them strip the black paint and polish the brass barrel and pump tube! or get it CHROME PLATED!!! none of these extra options are really a necessity, but they all add something amazing that wasn't there previously), read the page, it is very interesting.

-the other link is to that comparison video review that i was talking about. sorry for rambling, lol... i have just been thinking about some of the things that were discussed in this thread for a long time now. hope y'all find the info and video useful.

Check charliedatuna.com if i remember he has a "leather seal conditioner" recipe... make some and drop it on the seal, those old leather seals, will pretty much last forever, but they do need to be "brought back to life". pelletgun oil is good too, but for leather seals you should use a leather conditioner, mink oil, or something like that. chedk bob's site and read up! glad you got it shooting again!

766, w/Williams WGRS rear peep sight and stock foresight w/glued on plastic piece to raise top of blade 3/32"
30 ft. 4 pumps = 490's RWS Basic .177 7.0 gr
Forearm rested on block of foam and butt on my shoulder.
10 shots. (looks like I need to work on the 'sight-in' a bit more)

I was getting better groups with a 4x15 scope, but am working on peeps this winter.

Thats a good group. Are you shooting a 1o meter compition target? If so looks like its shooting pretty well.

Yes, that was shot on an AR-5/5 10 meter target.
Rifle forearm was rested to best show rifle accuracy, not shooters(my) inaccuracy.
I am still working on getting peep sight groups to come close to what I can do with a scope. 56 year old astimatized eyes, may also be a contributor. But I am having fun.
