Improving Accuracy with .22 TX200

3. What tolerance would you allow for pellet weight variance.
4. What has been the most consistent ammo for your .22 cal TX200?

What pellets have you tried??

Try Wally world Cphp, they work pretty well in my Pro Sport.  Just relax and shoot the gun, weigh later.  See what happens

Try JSB Exacts in the 16gr and the JSB Express. Also the H&N Field target Trophy or Beeman FTS. Good chance that one of those will be your best.

I can comment on the scale, but you probably wont notice much difference from weighing them and shooting them outta the can. Just clean your barrel and start with a pellet brand, shoot a few groups. Clean again before you switch brands. Find your best pellet first, then weigh them and sort if you like.

As for hold, they aren't too hold sensitive. But try the "loose grip on the wrist and forearm" and then try the "firm grip on the wrist and loose grip on the forearm". You may notice a difference in shooting "thumb up" with your trigger hand though. Try it both ways. For reference, ALL my springers do best with a snug hold with the trigger hand, no thumb up, and forearm gripped lightly.

Make sure your stock screws are snug, the breech seals are good, and the gun isn't dieseling and you should be impressed with it. They are very nice, easy to shoot guns. Enjoy your TX!

Mine shoots of the bag best. Rested directly on a Caldwell bag with about an inch clearance from trigger guard. Light hold and it's stupid accurate.
Mine is 177 but really likes JSB and H&N.

Sure Chet. This is right where I place it. My left hand goes under the butt pad in a loose fist for elevation correction. Very light hold, smooth trigger pull and watch pellet hit target......follow thru.
She shoots great this way bro!!

ok good pic, i never had much luck when i first starting shooting air rifles off the bench 3 months ago, i am going to try it again, did you ever adjust your trigger on your TX yet.

I sorted the H&N FTT by head diameter and weight.  It was apparent that these pellets came from at least two very different molds.   About half were very consistently 5.56 - 5.58 mm, all the rest were between 5.49 and 5.52mm. The weights varied from 14.30 grains to 14.75 grains.  The best I could do at 40 yds with the sorted 14.50grn/5.48mm FTT was about 7/8". 

I measured the head diameter of the boxed Crossman's and they ranged mostly from 5.48 to 5.50 mm but I didn't measure as many as I did with the FTT's. Later in the day, some of the Crossman's were very stubborn going into the chamber so I need to do a more extensive sorting on these.  I suspect some larger head diameters are there.  Weights ranged from14.25 to 14.55 grains.  These shot about the same as the sorted FTT's.

RWS Superdomes (unsorted) shot well but there were a few fliers.  We will see what sorting does with these later. 

The best pellet of the day was the RWS Meisterkugeln's (unsorted).  They were the most consistent even out to 40 yds.  These pellets are a little lighter, averaging 13.85 grains and with smaller 5.46 - 5.50mm head diameters. 

The only JSB that has grouped well so far is the Straton.  Stratons and Meisterkugelns both have the smallest head diameters of the ones I have shot.  So, I wonder if the larger head diameter pellets are the real issue in the TX. 
 
I have a new shipment of pellets in.  AA's, JSB's, RWS's will all get sorted this week and shot this weekend.  Oh, best hold so far is as described by palonej.  I put a thin piece of cotton cloth between the gun and the bag to reduce friction.

Personally I WANT smaller groups, but have found that 7/8" at 40 yards is nothing to sneeze at and yes even be quite proud of!  I do know I'd like to think a couple at least a couple that "group" out of that entire group.

Since I haven't been sorting, unless I feel it's really tight or loose, I've just shot them.  I really wish there was a way to know if I'm dealing with user error, or what?  My best 5 shot group was .35" @ 40 and even it, had one being a flier.  God only knows what works and why?  Let alone is the barrel cleaned, seasoned or ?  Oops, I just moved my left hand 3/4" or pressed my cheek or stock too hard?

I think that 7/8" at 40 yards is fairly respectable check with the HFT and FT shooters they can let you know what groups are needed to be competitive I would like to know also since I plan to start competing in HFT in the spring

i opened up a tin of H&N FTT in 4.51 dia today and my second 5 shot group at 15yds was one hole, the other day i shot a ragged hole with JSB 8.44 the H&N FTT did  it prolly gonna be the pellet, on par with my PCP now, slightly better than my 34..

We are talking two different pellets and barrels entirely (.177 vs. .22).  I suspect that the H&N's in .177 may be better than the .22 cal.  However, 5 shots at 15 yds could be misleading.   Try 40 yds and 12-shot groups.

I had comparable 6-shot groups with H&N and Meisterkugelns at 20 yds but when I backed out to 40 yds, the FTT's started scattering to over 1.5", and the RWS's under 1.25" repeatedly.  I would say that the FTT's were on par with the boxes Crossmans, JSB's and RWS Superdomes.  It would have been premature speculation  to have called the H&N's the winners before trying the RWS's, and the RWS's the winners now.  So many more pellets to test.

I've sorted through my new pellets and will punchin' holes at 40 yds in the morning. 

Of all the pellets I've measured so far, the 22-cal H&N FTT's have had the widest spread with regard to head diameter.  The spread being 0.08mm  (5.49mm to 5.57mm) out of the same tin.  AA Falcons have been the most consistent with the spread being only 0.01 mm !!  Can't wait to shoot these and the RWS Superpoints (0.02 mm spread) tomorrow.  It's hard to get accurate readings on the RWS's because they dent so easily with their sharp-edged heads.

That was my best group with 6 shots, and luck was factor.  I never could repeat it.  With 8 shots, I was averaging 1.25" with the "good" pellets and almost 2" with the "bad" ones.  I would be very pleased right now with consistent 7/8" groups at that distance.

[/quote] Were you shooting outdoors and was it dead calm if so and unless you had some indicator /flags hanging at incrimental distances you cannot tell how much of the deviation is environmental how much is pellet/rifle and how much is shooter

I was outdoors with 5 mph wind directly on my back. I need to bring in indoors but the longest range is 25 yds.

Perfect day to shoot today.  Dead calm.  I put 6 different 22 cal pellets to the test at 30 yds.  Cleaned the barrel between groups and fired 5 pellets into the ground before punching holes.  The results:

RWS Superdome 14.5 grn:       10 shots, 1.30" group
AA Diablo Field 16.0 grn:          10 shots, 1.15" group
H&N FTT  14.66 grn:                 10 shots, 1.10" group  (sorted to exact same weight)
RWS Meisterkugeln 14.3 grn:   10 shots, 0.90" group
AA Falcon 13.43 grn :               10 shots, 0.72" group (hitting 3" lower than all the rest, 6" lower at 40 yds!!) These got tossed.
RWS Superpoint 14.5 grn:        10 shots, 0.60" group


The two best, Meisterkugelns and the Superpoints, made it to the finals.  So I moved the target out to 35 yds and got these results:

RWS Meisterkugeln: 6 shots = 1.0" group,  8 shots = 1.14" group,  8 shots = 1.30" group
RWS Superpoint:      6 shots = 0.96" group,  8 shots = 0.88" group,  8 shots = 0.87" group


Next test, I moved the target out to 45 yds:

RWS Meisterkugeln: 6 shots = 1.40" group, 6 shots = 1.62" group
RWS Superpoint:      6 shots = 1.10" group,  6 shots = 1.07" group


Brought the target in to 25 yds:

RWS Meisterkugeln: 6 shots = 0.57" group
RWS Superpoint:      6 shots = 0.50" group,  5 shots = 0.45" group,  5 shots = 0.36" group

RWS Superpoints are the pellet to beat so far.  I sorted these and the Meisterkugelns by weight and compared grouping.  There was no difference in accuracy between the sorted pellets and the unsorted ones.

Don't give up on the AA Falcon.  A lower POI does not mean they are bad.  Try shooting the AA Falcon against the Superpoint at 45 yards, might be surprised.
