An experiment and great night of shooting

 I took a box of Die B CPLs that I had washed, lubed, and sized, and put them in liquid nitrogen at work for 5 hours to cryo treat them.  Made it home from from work with about 90 minutes of shooting light left. I have no idea if the cryo treating did anything or not, but I can say that this was the best shooting session I've had in a long time and the best I've ever had with my TX200HC (and I've had some very good ones). 

From FT sitting position 10 yard groups a single pellet hole in size, 25 yard groups of 1/4 inch, 40 yard groups of 1/2 inch, and 50 yard groups of 3/4 inch.

Everything just felt perfect.  Absolutely no wind.  My position was rock solid.  Crosshairs just fell right on target and just sat there.  No heartbeat bounce, nothing. 

As for the cryo-treated pellets, they seemed to fit a little looser in the breech and didn't require as much force to seat correctly. Which is good because they were way tight before. Did the cryo do this or was I just imagining it.  Don't know and don't care.  I put over 200 rounds down range tonight and the results tell me I'm happy.  Seems my TX has a new favorite pellet and I just happen to have 17,000 of them left.

One last strange thing, the clicks for every yardage were exactly the same as for AA 8.4 pellets.  The AA shot at 775fps while the CPL are shooting at 787fps.  Seems I can shoot either pellet and have the same poi at every range from 10-50 yards.

Sounds like everything fell in place, Mike.
There are days where I feel I can do no wrong but that rarely happens for me.

Interesting idea on the Cryo treatment.  Seems you should be doing that for all of your pellets from now on

Gotta love when everything just seems to come together.  Now it's just about making that happen more frequently. 

AS for the 8.4 vs 7.9 POI, I have expereinced the same thing in one of my Air Arms guns.....maybe it's the barrels, or maybe at 12 FPE the pellets just seem to find themselves in similar states ballistically. Probably has more to do with the power level than anything else.  And about a half a grain is not that far off weight wise.  Funny thing is though, CPL's tend to be more consistent in the wind than JSB/AA.  One thing to consider when setting up a gun.

I don't use CPLs in my TX because they have to be forced in. Way too tight. But POI is almost exactly the same for 7.87, 8.4 and 8.64 in 4.52.
That is some beautiful shooting!! You usually know things will go well after the warm up shots.....then the blonde insists we go shopping for dish towels or new pillow cases. Ugh

Yea, only 17,000.  I took advantage of the Crosman 10 pound special last month and got 14 boxes of the CPLs.  It was a gamble since I wasn't sure my TX would like them or not.  Figured I could always sell or trade them if it didn't work out.  Looks like I don't have to worry about that now
