Greetings, Bait Hunters! I was directed to this link off the "Hunting Gate" where I had some Bait Station questions .... Living out in the woods about a mile from the nearest road here in WI sets me up for a pretty consistent and wide range of critters under the decks, in the garbage, birdfeeders, etc (heck, I even had a woodchuck chew a hole in the seat of my Harley a few years back, caught the sucker doing it too but he split and never came back before I could "correct" the behavior) ...

At any rate, Here's the station I'm using at present, approx. 24-26yds from the back door, clean shot through a cracked patio door (which is the only truly silent door in the house, hence the location) - the light is a Cree XML-T6 with a medium green stage gel over the lens, they can't see it a bit. No dinger yet, mostly just patience and checking the station from time to time (generally anytime I get bored and fill it I have a taker within an hour or so, sometimes I catch 'em, sometimes it's a free meal)

And i'm not sure if this qualifies as I took him by the garbage cans and not off the station, but either way I was kind enough to buy him one last drink to send him skyward after introducing him to the 9mm RS Bullpup one night:

So go ahead and consider this my application to the club, LOL - Around here it's mostly C-rats and Bandits in the winter, Muskrats and Woodchucks in the summer (still have to figure out how to bait a muskrat, it's hard to find 'em out of the water much) but at any rate, I'm sure the pics will keep coming !!!

My coup has been hit hard this winter. We lost two birds and the "dang" rats made Swiss cheese outta the run! I box in my run to keep out snow. THIs is where I shoot most of the rats so zero activity for some time. Last weekend I was out cleaning the run and I saw three. I was very tempted to load up rat shot in my 22 Maggie revolver!!

Snow is down under a foot and will soon be gon we have had a couple days flirting with the fiftys.

Nice station there Brew City. I haven't seen anything but rabbits outside here in IL. In the summer raccoons, chipmunk and possum come by a lot but not this winter.
The dinger has been buried under snow drifts 5 times now this year so I might have missed seeing some but I haven't even seen tracks.

Caught two more fat rats in black Cat traps tonight, had to take one away from the dogs it was barely caught on it's nose, it met Mr Wolverine.....

I have had two of them set for MONTHS... NO TAKERS!!! Rebaited with PB, cheese and meat...no takers.

One was on dog food, that is what they eat out of the house mostly by sneaking into the laundry room when the dogs are not in there, and the other was on a cinnamon raisin roll...

Would you be so kind as to post a pic of your night light set-up ? maybe a little more info on it ?

I pulled the snow covers off the chicken runs yesterday.... TEN MINUTES I HAD A RAT DOWN!!! I watched on and off most of the day doing my ''honey do list'' I was able to shoot five!!! Three recovered and one BIG BUGGER!! He was probably THREE POUNDS!!!!

I took pis.. then my niece uploaded the new version of the iPhone software and somehow those ''icky rat pics'' got erased......

Must of been the upload she tells me....

Has anyone tried glow in the dark paint on their bait station? Or glow in the dark anything? It was raining all weekend and I was cleaning out my wood scrap pile and cobbled together a pretty cool multipurpose rat/mice HOSP station. I was wanting to have the option to light it with some green led light but no power at target. Then I thought of some sort of solar power led kit or something. Then I kind of stumbled into glow in the dark paint and wondered if anyone here has ever messed with it?

No experience with the GITD paint but I expect you would need a lot of surface area for it to be effective, it loses charge quickly, and seems like it would be an eyesore.

A solar light like you mentioned sounds pretty good except most critters will be wary of white light. You could add a red filter though.

What I use is a low-output red LED flashlight and rechargeable lithium batteries. Many a critter have met their end bathed in its red glow. About $20 from Amazon or Dealextreme should get you going.

You guys need to check this stuff out. I use one of the 250 gun mounted lights for predators on my .223, and its great. The feeder light looks like it would be pretty good at a bait station. Im gonna order one of they're 100 models for my ag and scattergun. From what I've read, rat eyes are less sensitive to red light than green, for what its worth.

I got my pellet proof bird feeders finished and up last weekend, ill have to snap a couple pics to put on here. I thought i was the only redneck sob that would actually go out of the way to attract unwanted pests just to have something to shoot at, then i found this place!

Found a new critter in the hen house tonight... Momma said that a rabbit was INSIDE! I told her I would be very surprised... Well, I am very surprised!!

The 2200 made short work of him.
