You can see that my normal practice lane is currently being taken up with pool floats, I am in the process of winterizing the pool and pilled them all on my shooting, aka picnic, table....

It is about 35~40 yards from that window to the base of the tree where the metal pellet trap is located, you can barely see it on top of the saw horses back there in front of the Big Black Oak....

I sometimes shoot at it from inside hide #2, grandkid's room, in the prone position after I slide the bed up to the window...

Ok, I need some I.F.A.R.T member help here. I got this big black rat that has me stumped. He is adept at drive by food grabbing, never even slows down, just runs by, swings his head to the side to grab, then keeps on running!! Last night I thought I had him. But no, he escaped again. He did limp off though so I may have cut hair. But since he only slowed to 100 MPH, I think he will survive.

New plan. Going to set up three dingers. Change bait to something harder to grab, drink more beer.

What do you think?

What ever food you have, stick it some peanut butter.
Makes it harder to do an eatn'run thing.
Let go of the donger, sit and wait if you can.
I had a donger but got rid of it.
Every time you go out to shoot they see you and stay away.

I would suggest moving the ding donger further "upstream" of the anticipated path he is taking to give you an extra few seconds warning, while he is "in-coming".
Then, I suggest having/putting the bait between two cinder blocks, (or other means of an obstacle), backed right up against the wall.
 That way he can't do it as a "drive-by".
He's either got to take a momentary "stall" while going over the top,... or,... going around the front of the cinder blocks. This will give you that momentary break you need to squeeze off the shot.

OH and YES !,... More beer will MOST CERTAINLY make it all better,.... for both of you ! hahaha!

A big ol' gob of peanut butter smeared on whatever surface you have available.  When I shoot 'em out of trees, I smear it on a branch I know they are using to get around and that I have a clear shot at from my window.  When I shoot 'em off the bird feeder, I smear a little on the bottom of the feeder so they have to lean over the edge to get at it.  This makes 'em stick their head out where I have a shot, but I don't risk damaging my feeder.  I've probably killed at least 3 dozen of the buggers in the last year, and all of them came to peanut butter.  It's like heroin for rats.

This may be a bit 'unsporting' but, staple down some sticky rat paper. Then you have time to take the shot.

Well I tried following you guys advise. I went and got the 30 pak, and set it out by the bait station.
 First one,...




then another two or four,...




And before you know it, I'd forgotten about shooting and I passed out in the yard.
 when I woke up, things didnt seem just right, and I could swear I heard them in the trees laughing at me,
 I dunno,... maybe I didn't do the beer thing right,..... Ya Think ? ? ?




well anyway,.....
at least they left the last one for me to have with breakfast,...
