HW 80 K / R1 .22 Problem

I think it is time for you to find another rifle. The R1 was the first real magnum air rifle. It was and is a hard kicker. You cannot hold it hard into your shoulder. You must let it move. Newton, you know. There are people here that will buy your rifle and then you can get a pumper or a pcp with no recoil and the accuracy you are searching for. Just my opinion. I am 68 years old and have enjoyed my R1 for more than 29 years. I shoot it at least 100 times a month. Not as much as before because I now have two Marauders. I posted a target here on the GTA 50' Target #13. Not my best and not my worst but for a rifle fired more than 253,000 times with the original spring, piston seal and breech seal, it does ok. The R1 is not for everybody just as not everyone is right for the PCP guns that require air and more attention than most springers. I would get another rifle, if I were you. IMO

Blue Loctite? Really? I don't want to damage my gun.
@RETATCDUDE: I don't want an other rifle! I love my 80. It kicks hard but i like the recoil!
I want only to secury the screws, then iam happy!!

OK then.
The front stock screws should have star lock washers.
The front trigger guard should never loosen on its own.
The rear trigger guard screw should just be snug. Too tight, the safety won't work.
Owner's manual advises to check screws with every tin of pellets.
Make a note of the direction of the slots.
Blue Loctite will not hurt anything.

Loctite the Blue is what everybody uses! or some Teflon tape!

I used some Teflon tape (plumbers tape?) and nothing changed... the front trigger guard screw (the big one? Metric 7mm threaded) get loose after 50 shots... tight, not tight, light tighten... nothing changes. ht rear one is snug.

Loctite! make sure the threads on the bolt and inside of where it screws in are clean of all oils or grease!

People would benefit greatly, if they would simply read the product directions .   Blue is completely safe....as is Red if you know how to use it and remove it --per Directions included with the product.

x3 blue lock tite works and keeps everything including the scope mounts from getting loose from the vibration of the spring recoil. Also works great on Harley fasteners and keeps important things from falling off

Blue loctite will in no way damage your gun... My R1 has all of its screws secured with blue loctite.
One other option is the cup kit that mac 1 airgun sells for the hw80/r1.

My r1 with a minor lube tune and a vortek seal is launching CPHP's 14.3gr at ~770fps for just under 19fpe.
I had a vortek kit in it with a high strength spring and it was launching the same pellets at 810fps for 20.8fpe but it was slightly harder to be as accurate at that power level. 19fpe is plenty for me and my nutter/chuck/coon hunting duties.
Good luck but just order a vortek kit. Use the included vacseal and guides and order a high power spring from vortek. Then you will have a 20+ fpe gun. Also replace the breach seal with a new factory seal. Cant hurt anything.

Thanks a lot. What Locktite should i use ? I need the number of the Lt, is it the 242 or 245. they're all blue.

@Jringe1109: I'd a Vortek PG2 Kit in my Gun, but the Piston-seal was way too oversized, i re-installed the factory one and the titan spring, maybe i
use too light pellets ??

@all: Can i use heavy Pellets? e.g. Beeman Kodiaks 21,14 gr or jsb 18,13 gr pellets? Can i damage the gun / spring when i use such heavy ones? (C&C said in their book the optimum in weight is under 15 grain of pellet-weight)

242 is the most common.

245 is not normally available in smaller retail ammounts.

Go with 242, it is the catch all blue Loctite.

  If you see SuperGlue brand blue threadlocker, you can use it safely. I have used it before and have noticed zero difference between it and Loctite branded 242 thread locker.

mr. B,
why dont you re-install the vortek kit and just order a new factory piston seal? that way you get a better shot cycle and the factory seal should still increase your power. maybe your seal now is nicked or undersized.
i shoot mainly H&n ftt 14.66 and Jsb 15.9 and with either pellet the gun is a tack driver. i dont like kodiaks in the R1 too heavy and loopy trajectory. just my opinion.

Hi,
the factory seal isn't nicked, i removed it with a so called plastic screwdriver. the seal is in perfect shape.

Ok i will use the jsb 15 grainer.

Update: I've used Loctite 242 - only a small Drop on the big Screw on the Triggerguard. Now after 2 Days i tried to unscrew the big one .... no chance its fixed like a welded connection...

Use a good quality screw driver that fits the screw head snug and a large enough handle for decent torque should unscrew with little difficulty. Just make sure that the rifle is also secure

when you use Loctite theirs no need to torque the bolt super tight!
