Sticks/Limbs As Targets

Greetings,

I have not splurged yet for an air rifle, but have my eye on a Hatsan Torpedo 100X in .22.  I am hoping in the near future they put the Vortex piston in it.

Now, I have a house with several trees that have not been totally taken care of by the previous owner.  I have dead branches fall down in the yard every rain storm and often everyday.  I have cut some of them down, but am not getting to the tall ones.  I was wondering about shooting them down since some are small.

So, has anyone tried shooting at sticks?

Can't believe this came up! We had a rather large branch hanging down low and blocking some targets in my back yard range. My son and I did a little gardening. I had the 56 he was shooting the TX and after about 30 shots each we took it down! Lotta fun!!

I have shot small branches into before. I have even mowed weeds down and picked fruit (nuts and berries) with a pellet gun.

All part of the fun of pellet gun shooting. Just make sure you have a clear and safe area for the pellets to come down in. Shooting a pellet up into the air could come down 500 or more yards away.

Yep, that's how I keep my shooting lanes clear!

Dandelions are a blast in the yard. Just wish I had a crab apple tree back about 50 yards or so.

I've shot sticks like that to get them out of the way of a usual shot spot in a tree branch when they were too high to cut by hand. I used a newly cut 3" branch stump that the power company had recently cut down to test my disco at 50yds since it was a bright target in the sun compared to all the dark surroundings in the shade around it. The pellet hit dead center and I had no pellet box to carry back to the house so I was a happy camper.

Indeed .. We had a Wildland fire next to our property @ 5 years ago and the dead oak tree snags are still there towering above the new brush growth.  Because woods bone dry you can get a .177 or .22 to pass threw branches a couple inch's in diameter.

So ... sit in the side yard shooting 25-100 yards topping the snags of fairly large branches !!  What cool is you can see the holes hits make, then concentrate on a central POI that in time @ 4 to 6 foot sections of branch topples down

Fun.  I've shot through a pinky thickness 3 feet high weed.  Shootin at the base from 2nd floor window at a distance of 25 yards.  Took about 40 something shots.

I prune some small branches that block my line of site to my targets. Oh and I some times shoot the oak balls out of the oak trees.

Pine cones make great targets too.

i have harvested many many sticks


i cut down a 2" diameter sumac at 75yds with my mrod one day,

a buddy that was shooting with me couldnt believe it when he saw it start leaning LOL  then it crashed

yep many times, specially when it has a wasp nest in it.

some times the wast make their homes too close to our comfort, and too high in the trees, so y remove the whole branch.

My neighbors have dog toys that get stuck in their tree from time to time. I shoot the branches down as a service to them and entertainment for myself. This works out great for them, me and their dogs!

Good idea as long as you know where the pellets will fall.

Weeds, sticks and wasp nests are some of my favorite targets. They can also be some of the most difficult in a breeze.
