If you have a drill press and adjustable vice the trigger mods are easy. I've done 4 now and all are working very well. You might be able to do it using a bench vise and hand drill if you are very careful to keep the drilled hole as centered as possible in the trigger. The problem with doing it by hand is that the upper sear is pretty narrow and if the added screw isn't centered well in the trigger then the sear can try to slip to the side off of the adjusting screw tip so centering is really important. You can get a fairly good adjustable vice at Harbor Freight for just a few dollars.
You can easily tap out the factory metal pin in the trigger that functions as a fixed first stage then drill through that opening down through the trigger just touching the edge of the rubber insert that functions to dampen screw movement and exiting on the trigger face. I used a 6/32 drill and tap. Be sure to run the tap starting from the face of the trigger upwards into factory pin opening so that the adjusting screw works correctly). Thoroughly debur all rough edges on the sears and the hammer and polish all contact points on upper sear, lower sear, hammer face, and the tips of the trigger adjusting screws. If the upper sear is too tight when in place inside the hammer, lightly sanding the "spring" inside the hammer (actually just a guide for upper and lower sears) to allow the upper sear to move freely but without any side to side slop will allow use of a lighter trigger reset/return spring. Some of mine needed this and some didn't. Lower sear moved freely in all of mine.
The quality of trigger pull you can attain on this inexpensive pistol is really amazing.

To smooth out the dual stage trigger mod don't use standard set screws. Purchase Stainless Steel Ball Point Set Screws. Perfect surface for the upper sear plate to ride on. They are pennies & widely available. Just my two cents.
I am in the process of having all the trigger and hammer springs made here in the USA. They will be dimensionally correct and the spring rates are changed from the Chinese OEM junk. A "L" bend is also added to shear spring #2 to keep it from slipping into the grip (common problem that prevents the gun from firing). These upgrade kits will be available soon and will include 2 Stainless Steel Ball Point Set Screws. Stalwart Arms makes an awesome trigger that includes a ball bearing and has the correct profile on the shear plate contact surface that the second set screw isn't needed. I also will have O-ring kits available that are 20 times better than the buna seals. All the O-rings are the correct size and proper durometer for there perspective application. A lot of information I have seen posted is incorrect or not the best choice for the application. Also currently developing and prototyping a RH competition grip set with adjustable palm rest. A big thanks to Eric for his assistance and technical expertise! He is the master when it comes to the P17!

It should be noted that Stalwart Arms is not affiliated, nor has it been, in any way, with VRD LLC, VRD Arms, or Scott Villmow.
