Benjamin Trail NP XL1500 question

As mentioned a bad seal is very likely in the Xl's, even if it gets past the sharp edges of the end cap threads, there's the burred edges of the cocking lever slot. Mine had a few nicks in it.

Don't know if you've checked this....
Gene recently mentioned a problem with the Trails where the front stock screws can be too long and hit the cocking linkage. After reading that I found that one of the screws on my XL was just touching. I filed off two threads worth of the screw end, re-beveled it and now it's got plenty of clearance.

You might want to take a break from the range until you change the seal. You might even find that the range isn't realy necessary, AG's tend to lend themselves to shooting at, around and, in the home.   Buy or make one of these

IMO, and I am not alone, the XL1100 and XL1500 seal is UNDERSIZED for the power plant. Those little nicks would not be having the influence they have on your accuracy if the seal was sized properly from the beginning.  Here is the seal you need if you haven't found it yet

I am in the middle of my change now for the XL1100 and my XL1500 is next.  Both of them exhibited the same symptoms you have.

Thanks shootstraight I just ordered the seal. I shoot at the range every other day because I shoot match comps every other saturday so I am there anyway its just more convenient for me to bring the AG along with me when I go to practice or try new loads. I appriciate the links you were a big help! I will get more info on how to change it when the new seal comes in.

airiscool I had one screw on the right side of the rifle that was rubbing so I took it down about the same amount as you said you had to. Thanks for the reply!

Hello Paul I have read till my eyes were bleeding. I made a spanner wrench and tried to get the end cap to turn and im having no luck. I have a barrel vice for just about any powder burner you can think of but I dont have anything close to this and I dont want to grab hold of the barrel and go twisting on it. Can you tell me the best way to go about grabbing hold of this thing and are the treads left or right hand? Thanks Robert

The end cap has fine, right hand threads, so it'll come out counter-clockwise.

I used padded jaws of a woodworking vice, built into my work bench, to hold the compression tube (reciever) near the trigger group.

At about the point where I thought something was going to break, the cap threads finally turned. Whatever they seal the threads with dosen't come loose easily.

If it hadn't let go when it did, I was next going to try warming (expanding) the end of the reciever with a heat gun. Heat will also loosen some types of thread locking compounds.  But, be careful with the heat !!!! Many plastics melt at about 350F degrees which is well below the temperature of what many heat guns can put out. Don't heat it so hot you can't touch it, or you risk melting/streaching the plastic end cap threads.

didnt think and used my vice grips after snapping my spanner wrench
dumb mistake as i chewed up the cap some but
ill order a new cap 1st if i ever sell the gun !!
i now have the gun shooting at a steady 25 fpe with polymags and Dynamics tm2  both are DEADLY accurate at 18 yards in the basement with a light hold
if i hold gun tight the groups open(which is just opposite as befor) when i first got the gun only a tight hold would group but ive had the gun apart and together 10 times now and ran 1000 shots in it
but im ok with the gun now shooting at 25 fpe

Crowpopper how has yours held up after 10 times? Mine needs that weird screw-the one behind the trigger and looks like its 5 years old. I've had mine apart 4 times.  I think the screw is a little stripped.  Do you know if crossman sells it?
