Discovery Bolt Handle Pops-up Every Shot?

I've got hundreds of shots on the Discovery now, and what happened once in a while is happening every shot now; the bolt pops-up and stays there.  I can hear it pop-up and see it, as I'm a lefty.

Is this normal Discovery behavior?

The bolt action is smooth as glass now, but there is no tension at all keeping the bolt handle down; no detent or spring lock, it just falls down to the bottom of its channel.  Come to think of it, I don't remember a detent or other means of securing the bolt, since new.

This can't help accuracy much.

My average fps is around 840 with CPHPs, that's still super.

Any thoughts?

Normal, I have seen where guys put a rubber band on to hold it down but at least on mine its only about half way up and not a problem

My .22 disco doesn't do that at all but my .177 disco does it quite often.  I simply wrapped a rubber band over the bolt handle and looped the other end over the trigger guard.  Granted, it looks kind of "cheesy" but it works great and the squirrels and rabbits don't mind a bit  

I don't have to take the rubber band off at all,,, I can work the bolt handle, cock it and load a pellet with the rubber band on, works great.

Another option would be to simply unscrew the bolt handle and slip a small piece of clear plastic tubing over the shaft then re-install the bold handle.  The plastic tubing would increase the diameter of the bolt just enough to snug it down securely when  you lock the bolt down.  I've been thinking of doing that to my .177 disco but since the rubber band worked so well I just never got around to it.

Jeff, I've got silicone methanol/nitromethane fuel tubing, that should work just super! Thanks for the idea!

Had that problem all the time on my .25, would blow the bolt open and deafen you.  Try a small spring and nylon washer on the bolt handle.  You'll need to open the hole up in the washer a bit so it slides easily.  Bolt doesn't move at all now!

Also, be sure that the hammer pin isn't hitting the back of the bolt when the hammer travels forward.  Had to take a few thousandths off the tail end of the bolt to stop that from happening.

Funny, even in the Crosman commercials, the bolt on the Disco jumps when fired - take a look next time you watch American Airgunner.....

Yeah, I have to wonder why Crosman designed the bolt/receiver with no positive bolt detent.  Guess saving bucks got in the way of engineering?

Maybe they didn't notice the issue?

I've not seen a bolt action rifle that the handle/bolt assembly flopped around...maybe because I haven't owned many bolt action rifles? ;-]

Crosman made a Video Ad. A Kid Shooting a Disco and His Dad w/a M-Rod, The Kid's Bolt on the Disco jumped up on every Shot in the Video so I guess that is what it is.....Franky

My Discovery did that every once in a while with a deafening "POP" and air in your face surprise!. I took a center punch and dented the slot just above the bolt handle in the down position. This displaced just enough metal to cause the handle to lock down in place. I tried it using two punch marks on either side and that works too. Cost $0 and 100% effective and no silly looking rubberbands. I don't know why Crosman doesn't manufacture them this way. A picture is worth a thousand words.
