Shooting Chrony "DIY LED LIGHTS"

I was going to buy light strips for my shooting Chrony. I have the green F1 least expensive model, although I have read that most / all models do not perform well and you receive error messages in low light or with fluorescent lights. After considering my options, I decided I really hated the incandescent type ($50 approx) and I really liked & wanted the newer LED model, but the price was kinda high so I came up with this version.

The LED has 9 lights that run at approx 4-5000k, this number refers to the light spectrum and the higher the number the "whiter" the light will be. I found this spectrum worked very well with pellets and can be used with any of the Shooting Chrony models.

It can be set up to run with a 6-8' A/C or can be setup as D/C only or selectable between the two.

That is a very cool mod. How has it been working out testing it indoors?

Yes, it works very good actually. You need to get the sweet spot for where to send the pellet above the sensors in the bottom, but once you get the basic area it is very good. I was shooting in both a dark room and a room with florescent overhead lights and I only got error message once in awhile. Definitely worth it.

I ordered some 10" LED strip lights from Amazon.com. I have an Oehler with three screens so felt the 10" may work out nice.

The 10" would be too long for most Shooting Chrony's, I have a Beta and the diffuser on it is only about 8~9" long...

I did the math on them AFTER ordering them :-)...they will be of some use somewhere even if they do not work out. But some sources say sunlight is 90 lumens, and the LED's used in the ones linked should put out 7-11 lumens each, and 12-18 lumens each if they are "high quality". 9 led's per strip would be either 63-99 lumens or 108-162. They just might work :-). The Oehler comes with an orange diffuser too and maybe the sky screens do not get a full 90 lumens anyway.

We shall see, I can adjust the physical plant to suit the light strips at least to try it.

After some looking I see reels of light strip that can be cut every 3 LED's to any length you desire from 3 led minimum to at least 5 meters long, and they run on 12 volts.

Those light strips are great a few guys I know on DodgeTalk.com have them run all under the tool boxes in their trucks and up under the hood...

I would think they should fit crossways on the shades without cutting.  Don't ypu thoink?

I have the Competition Electronics Chronograph with their indoor light kit, and oddly enough the light bars do not put out any detectable light except for a small red led to notify you that it's on.

It works great, even under fluorescents.  I wonder what's in there.

I was talking with an RKI about my Oehler setup, he said there are IR Photo-transistors, best guess is that is what they used. You would use IR LED's as the light source.
