2beers, the serial number tells the age, the first few digits are the date of manufacture 1-9 in the first digit is the month numerically then O for October, N for November and D for December (not always the case, but normally) then the year, the picture is a touch too small to tell from where I am.

From what I've read here, I've bookmarked several pages of sources for the mod parts and for instructions on doing the mods.  But is there any one custom shop where you can order a 1322 with these things already installed (which is beyond what you get at the Crosman custom shop)?  This is my first post on this forum.  I've read all 18 pages of this topic, and dozens of others, but not seen such a thing so far.  I'm plenty mechanically inclined, but not having any experience in any guns' innards, I'm partly concerned about getting contamination in it which would compromise the seals.

I used to hunt with a shotgun, but have not done any hunting in 40 years, and I'm new to airgunning.  I have a stock 1322; and although I eventually want to get up to something like a .357 PCP repeater rifle, I would also like to get a maxed-out 1322 as an intermediate step, and keep my existing 1322 small, ie, short barrel, no shoulder stock, and no scope, although I'll probably slowly upgrade other parts, primarily the pin that tends to work its way out, lighten the trigger, and increase the power.

From my reading here, the mod.s I tentatively want are:

• longer barrel (18" or 24")
• flat-top piston (FTP) and the accompanying valve
• enlarged transfer port hole
• stronger hammer spring (I've already put that in my otherwise-stock 1322.)
• bolt with the longer probe
• replace the roll-pin with a smooth steel pivot pin
• muzzle brake, only if it reduces noise substantially
• reduce the trigger pressure
• steel breech
• scope
• shoulder stock
• perhaps a lighter valve return spring

I'm open also to hearing possible alternative directions to take for this intermediate-step gun.  I'm not particularly stuck on this list, or the gun being a 1322 or even necessarily a Crosman, although I think I would prefer a pumper over a springer or a nitro piston or a CO2-powered gun.  Since I'll be getting the pressurizing equipment for the PCP later anyway, a lesser-expensive PCP might be an option for this intermediate step.  I have a friend who works for a company that supplies the gases, and he can get me the tank and the refills for a fraction of the normal cost, even helium (although I don't plan to go to that extent).

Another thing:  I see you're supposed to oil the 1322 every couple hundred shots, and Crosman has their own preferred oil.  Mine did not come with any though.  If I use a different brand of oil, what characteristics should it have?  For example, is a particular weight of motor oil fine?

And yet another:  I have read that the inside of the barrel should be cleaned occasionally, even though there's no gunpowder leaving any corrosive residue.  What do you all do?

I use Mac1 Secret Sauce for oil, but there's a motor oil that can be used as a cheap alternative. I believe it's 30w ND but someone will correct me if that's wrong.

Now your oil question is highly debatable. Many here recommend Mac1's Secret Sauce, I have read it is a hydraulic oil.
I assemble guns (pumper or CO2) with either ATF, or Marvel Mystery Oil but I have no "long term" data to tell if there are side effects... other than 20 years of using both in my air tools when I was an Auto Tech.
 That said, you can find Crosman Pelgun oil at ANY Walmart in the sporting goods section.

Thankyou for the answers and the good links.  I'm not in a hurry, but I do want to keep the process moving toward the goal.  Also, no one has commented on cleaning the inside of the barrel yet.  Is it really even necessary?  Does it make any significant difference in durability or accuracy or muzzle velocity?  (I suspect the answer is no.)  It looks like I have to keep checking back, as I'm not getting any email notifications saying that someone posted a reply, even though I thought I set up my preferences to do that.

On my existing 1322, I squeezed the trigger spring down a bit last night to lighten the trigger, so now I need to do a little shooting with that and see if I went too far.  I had watched a lot of videos on this stuff, but in the videos, I didn't see that itty-bitty spring and teensy ball bearing in the safety indexing, and those fell out and I had to figure out where they came from.  In the effort to get the ball bearing back in place, I dropped it three times and it rolled/bounced off the desk and into the carpet.  The last time, it took me a long time to find it!  I finally got the gun back together; but this kind of thing is why I was not anxious to do the mechanical work myself.  I suppose anyone who does this regularly not only knows what to expect, but has techniques and maybe special jigs to get that tiny spring and ball bearing back in place easily, and probably has a supply of them so they can just reach for another if they lose one.  I don't know yet what other things I'll run into if I try to do more of the mod.s myself.

How much money do you have in it?  Or maybe the better question is, how much should I expect to have to spend in order to get there?  I eventually want to get perhaps a .357 PCP repeater rifle; but the idea here was to have a maxed-out 1322 as an intermediate step.  But as I look at the bazillion choices of air rifles on the market, I'm wondering if it would be best to not spend too much on this, and just apply the money to a higher-scale gun.  After all that can be done to the 1322, it looks like in spite of the "cool" factor, it might still be unsuitable for hunting anything bigger than squirrels or doves.  It would be nice if it could do medium-sized rabbits.  The larger ones, and raccoons, seem to be out of the question.  (I'd like to find out that I'm wrong though.)

I've seen a lot of muzzle brakes online, but it looks like the ones offered for this gun are mostly for looks.  Are they very effective at quieting the gun down?
