DIY barrel choking

Back to the choking. I have since the last post used the tool given to me by HOWIE. Heavy cable crimper.  Using in lbs torque wrench this is by far a true choking tool. The half nut fabrication is a great tool but this tool is by far a great attempt.
Same method of trail and error for the amount of choke is used.
This tool at appearance,  one would not expect it to do much. It is a very powerful tool. So powerful that with just common wrenches you will over torque the barrel to the point that a pellet will not exit.
Again I am not in the business to make money.  But this tool is an A1 tool.
Designed to crimp heavy steel wrap cables for industrial use in heavy loading of cables for extreme loading.. Yes inch lbs of working pressure not ftlbs.
Thanks HOWIE. This tool is as good as Howies Stocks. Which you can not have made anymore.

I picked up a Crosman 24" .22 barrel. To me it had a very loose fit so I decided to choke it. I know most people will not have access to this but I wanted to share it anyways. I used a 7/16" 5C collet. I really had to pull hard on the handle but I managed to shrink the barrel by .002". I started with a .218" gauge pin that was snug in the barrel and ended with a .216" gauge pin being snug. Pellets now have some resistant about 1/2" from the end of the barrel. I've never shot a pellet through this barrel. Will be testing it later on. This probably will only work on the soda straw barrels like the Crosmans.

Interesting, Crosman barrels must be really soft.  Hydraulic collet closers have been responsible for destroying many a thin wall part.

That's not even a hydraulic one. It's a manual closer on a manual lathe. It's takes some effort to close it. Like I said in my post I've never shot a pellet down that barrel but I have a picture of what it is doing now. I just recently did a barrel for my pistol. I sawed off a 18" barrel to 12" and performed this the entire barrel so that the pellet has resistant down  the full length of the barrel plus a little more at the muzzle for a choke. I have not had a chance to test it yet.

Those are nickel size targets. JSB RS 13.43gr @ 625FPS
