What ya see when you don't have a gun

I was picking my wife up from work this afternoon and as I parked to wait I see a nutter sitting on a dumpster ( they have gnawed a hole in a side door). Nothing new I quite often have see one there but then one jumps out of the opposite side and I see 2 more on the ground. Gives one an Itchy trigger finger but fun to watch the interactions, especially the large one that was going in and out the door hole and sitting on the edge eating his dumpster finds. Behind the lot is a wooded hill and now that the leaves are mostly down I counted 6 nests 4 in one tree.( Be a great place to hunt but there's a car wash about 50 yards away and a street at the top of the hill) As I was viewing the nutter show 2 crows come in and want in on the dumpster diving action, the 3 on the ground take off but the big one keeps his/her ground then makes one last dive and comes out with looks like half a sub sandwich and scampers off with a crow in hot pursuit hoping to get a cut of the sub.( he didn't LOL)

Dave......That's life! I work as a grounds manager for a school and shortly our two dumpsters will be under survaillance at night! I have to always get on the kitchen staff for the sliding doors being open! Not sure who keeps leaving them open! Hehe!

A little dumpster diving critter hunting ?

Dave, we visit my brother's every other weekend, mostly to see the baby twins they have..  He lives very close to NY, on the Jersey side where it's very heavily populated (and no airgun shooting allowed).  Everytime I go there there is always 2-3 squirrels in his front yard, backyard, outside his window, they are always around. Yesterday I was sitting on his couch in the family room and there were 4 of the biggest nutters running on his fence and and all over his small backyard.  I had a very hard time containing myself and was hiding my trigger finger  The squirrels I see around his house are the biggest ever.  That's what happens when they have never been hunted or harrassed.  They stay out a very long time and just eat all day long.  That was how big the first 10-15 squirrels were that I took when I started shooting them around my house.  After that it was rare to shoot a "big" one.  Maybe 1 every 20-30 now is almost as big, because they don't get to live long to fully grow when they are hunted.

I swear that the squirrels in my yard can tell the difference between the sound of my car and my wife's car. When I drive in, they scatter. When she comes home with the kids, they know it's open season on my bird-feeder. Within 15 minutes of her getting home, there are usually 2-3 big ones snooping around.

Time to switch cars for a week!

I walk past them every single day here in downtown DC, including the black one I have mentioned...still haven't been able to get a good pic...but the funny thing is I have seen squirrels twice before stealing food off a dirty water dog stand (portable hot dog stand/vendor cart). Once a squirrel snagged a Hershey's bar and the vendor tried to run it down and the second time the little bugger stole a bag of pistachios and ran up a tree right over the cart and ate them while the vendor just watched - practically dropping the shells on his head. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard....

When I lived in Reston, VA thew little suckers chewed a hole in my plastic trashcan to get into my trash and would sit there and stare ME down as I walked past like I was in their turf.
