Hey guys, hoping to get some experienced insight. A few weeks ago my buddy bought the center point 4-16x40 adventure class scope from wally world, he mounted it shot it a few times while i was there and determined he thought it was too heavy for him, he a little fella anyway. So i took it off his hands for my newly tuned shadow, its bright out to full power and does everything i know scopes should do, i have several high end scopes on my center fires, heres where I'm stumped, i set up my sight in starting at 12 yards, I'm hitting the bullseye dot with 3-5 hole in hole shots, then the holes start moving down by 1 inch every shot, as straight down as i can hold the rifle it will draw a line! I can adjust it back up to bullseye and it will hold a few shots but it starts walking sown again until i run out of adjustment. Its sitting in a one piece mount that's rock solid, the scope is not slipping in anyway. I dint have the package or instructions to see if I'm missing something i just want to k now if any of you guys have had this happen?

I have that scope. If u have a springer it will break it. I'm just waiting for my hatsan 125 to break it so I can return it and get a hawke scope. You should do that to

Sounds like a broken scope. For a spring power gun, make sure you get a spring rated scope.

Spring guns have a double recoil. A backwards jolt and then when the spring slam to a stop, a forward jolt.

Not the same recoil as a powder burner or a PCP or a pumper.

The centerpoint is a springer rated scope, crosman either imports them or rebrands them, leapers is made in the same plant, many people on the forum have them and used the successfullyy on harsher guns than mine, maybe i will here from some owners present or past than can give some insight, if not then returned it goes. Just wanted to know if I'm missing something.

it is springer rated but it does not work well and they can put anything on the box. it does not work well on spring guns because it is 1 way anchored. meaning it is only meant to handle backwards recoil

I just don't believe this scope isn't springer rated.
I've fired THOUSANDS of pellets through my .177 caliber Gamo CFX that has been wearing this very scope for the last five years now, and I haven't had a single problem.

Have you marked the scope in the mounts to see if the scope is actually moving around on you?

I would start there, if that isn't happening then check the mounts themselves to see if they are moving, if not than it has to be the internals of the scope 'floating' around on you....

I have 3 of them scopes. All mounted on magnum springers. All have had several thousand shots fired under them. Never a single problem. Lucky? Maybe. But I aint complaining.

It is springer rated and no its not moving, the one piece mount is mounted in 2 scope stops and 4 allen bolts, checked the scope and its not sliding, there are allen screws on the side of the turrets and iwas hoping someone with this scope would know about them, i think they are for resetting zero and probably has nothing to do with my issue.

Well like I said above, if the scope or mounts are not moving than it has to be the internals....

Yep as i said i know many of you have them, i spent countless hours researching scope values and its very easy to see this is a very popular scope among air gunners, there is some hit or miss issues and maybe i missed, or maybe im missing something else. I wouldnt hesitate to give them one more shot, if its a bad one.

I’m not trying to put anybody down or say they are liars. I’m just stating what my experiences have been.

Back when I shot spring guns, I went throw a couple of Center Point scopes (and others) that clam to be air gun rated. Just because the company says there are air gun rated doesn’t mean they will hold up on all guns.

I even went threw a magnum rated scope with the RWS 350. It ate three scopes that were rated for it by the companies. It ate the last (magnum rated) scope after it was tuned by one of the best at the time on tuning them. That was the last straw and I sold it, cheap.

Cheap scope are just that, cheap. Yes, some good ones come off the assembly line and some bad one come off too.

I know what you mean about ratings, had a bad experience with a hawks spring rated scope on a different rifle, all models can be a toss up.

I've had similar experience with Leaper's 4-12xAO scope. I have it on my D34P, tuned w/JM OS kit. It recoils very softly. I have is zeroed at 10m. My scope would hold zero very well for a certain number of shots (I get single holes with 5-shot groups) and then, without any reason, the POI would jump ~1/2" up or down, stay like that for some number of shots and then switch again.

I've been chasing this POI for a while, re-zeroing the scope, and today I finally had enough and took the scope off. First, I'll install another scope and try for groups. Next, I will open my D34 up to see of the spring and the seal are intact, and then I'll be calling Leaper's next week.

I've been sending emails with pictures of my groups to Leaper's CS, but after the first one they stopped answering.

yeah Ive had this issue with other scopes in the past but not to this extent, even had a 500.00 leupold do it on a medium springer, going to give the exchange mine for another one and give it another chance because as some have said they have had great luck with theres, one thing I didnt give much thought about being a big game hunter is that Ive always had scopes without A/O, and i should have kept it that way I guess, great if your going to be target paper shooting all day, I didnt realize that changing the paralex changed the poi, have done a lot of research on that and a lot of air gunners plinking or hunting dont like them or feel they dont need them for that reason.......oh well, for 50 bucks I got an education.

Sounds like you are at the very end of adjustment. Try moving it back toward the middle of the range. If the groups hold then, you need to shim the scope or get adjustable mounts.

no, not at the end of adjustment....just speaking about a few scope issues over the last 20 yrs or so.........with this air rifle, gonna try a brand new one.....im getting a new air gun in .22 soon and I will either get a fixed power for my hunting or just use iron sights, will leave the long range A/O on the .177

Got the scope traded out last night, was able to put about 200 shots on it today and so far its holding rock solid, orderd a the gold trigger today so that should take of any other issues.

I had the same problems with the same type CP scope.
I eventually found out that the ocular adjustment right at the back end can be slightly floppy---like it moves 1/000's of an inch
under slight pressure. The only way you can see the movement is to secure the rifle and look through the scope and see if the cross hair moves under slight pressure on the occular ring.
My solution was I went to Lowes and bought a gasket ring from a sink pipe. Its 1-1/2 " in diameter , 1/8 th square and is black. Found in the plastic fitting section.
I slipped it over the occular ring and it fitted into the recess where the ring/lens moves in /out of the main body. After installed I screwed the occular ring back in till it was tight. This stopped the movement.
Maybe you could try several layers of masking tape around the rear end to do the same job as a trial.
