Got a QB79 from Mike Thur. was unable to shoot till this afternoon.
Things I learned.
I like HPA!
If I do my part the QB will do its part.
So far the QB is better on its part than I am on mine.
Starting pressure ~ 2300 psi Sorry, I don't have a chronograph. 10 yards.
7 shots iron sights. Mounted scope then 12 to sight scope close*. Then a 25 shot string. The 25th shot felt?, sounded? off. Checked gauge ~900 psi.
Charge to 2400 psi. Then another 25 shot string. And another 25 shot string. Ending ~1100 psi. This thing seems to like CPHPs. 18-20 shots of each string of 25 can be covered with a quarter. The largest string was a little less than 2 inches. The wide shots could very well all be on me. The smallest string was a bit over 1.5 inches.
All in all I am very happy with the results! I got a standard tune from Mike.
I have read that the QB's come from the factory in so-so condition. If that is true, it sure is not so-so when it leaves Mike's!
Details:
*I ordered a scope and rings. The rings came in, I am still waiting on the scope. The scope I used today was made in the 70's and given to me about 1982. It rattles and will not hold focus. I hope to do better with a new scope.
Although I am using a standard paintball Ninja bottle it will sometimes bump against the barrel at the far end. I am going to check into a drop block for it so I can install a on/off with gauge. If anyone is using a drop block, does it replace the current tank block or screw into the current block? I would rather replace the current block. I replaced the tank block screws with a grade 5 hex head cap screw when I installed the tank.
Does anyone know of a source for a better barrel band?
Noise:
I had thought it would be louder. But it isn't bad at all. Wonder how much louder a Disco would be...
I hope to be able to order a ProChrono soon and would like to get some different pellets to try. Sugestions are welcome.
Rain is predicted for the next 2 days maybe the scope will get here by then.

Congrats on your new 79... quite a few members have "new" 78/79 for Christmas.
You have now witnessed first hand what we love about these guns. On HPA they are a right treat!
MM does a good polish and smooth on the guns, which is his "tune", plus he inspects and shoots to make sure it's A OK. Out of the box, they do tend to need a lot of shooting, and.or polish and smoothing for decent accuracy. Depending on where your particular unit falls on the QC distribution, a re-crown may be in order if MM hasn't already done one. The barrel band on a 79 is metal, and because it sits on the drop block which is square-ish, it is pretty secure and doesn't really rotate like the barrel band on a 78 tube. I found thet replacing the cross bolt with a stronger one made it secure. A very good addition to these QBs however is to add a second grub screw behind the factory one in the breach to really secure the barrel. It's pretty obvious where to drill and tap for it. It's a M5x.8 screw, but a 10-32 will fit perfectly. Replace the factory grub screw with a good high strength one so you can reef down on it to make it really tight. Anyhow, I'm rambling - I hope you enjoy your 79... I sure enjoy my 78's with one in .177, .22 and now .25!
