Didn't get a call yesterday. At this point I'd just recommend calling Monday since there seems to be some sort of institutional confusion and multiple people saying they have the same problem might make them take it more seriously. I only have so much free time and patience for this sort of thing and it might just be an excuse to buy the world's cheapest power drill or make friends with someone that has one nearby.

I feel like I should post an update in the interest of completeness, since I finally got the correct trigger housing part. Today. I'm told this was a warehousing problem where parts were mixed up and the pickers couldn't verify unlabeled bags, or... something. So this should clear up the issue everyone was having.
tl;dr Probably safe to order the trigger housing from Daisy now

Okay, I read the PDF files from CMP and Pilk guns, and finally dove in for the trigger job. It mostly went well, but I was not prepared for the safety button to fall out along with the detent and spring. Fortunately, I was able to find the parts that tried to escape.
You will have to center the safety to get the action out the stock. Be sure to push the safety all the way to the right, into the trigger guard before you begin to remove the screw that holds the trigger guard on, and be careful not to let it slip out as you are working, or carefully removing them and store them safely until you are ready to reassemble.
There is a spring and ball bearing that fit into a hole in the safety button. You can see the shiny ball bearing in the safety button just barely held into the slot in the trigger guard in this photo.
Photo from Chris__Colorado Daisy 953 Disassembly Photos. I would post a link, but I'm not allowed.
Also, if you notch, drill and tap your triggerguard, take some sandpaper and deburr the rear of the triggerguard before you start to reassemble. My hand doesn't touch the rear of the triggerguard when I'm shooting, but my middle finger rubs on it when pumping.

The Univ of Memphis link is dead. (That is the risk of using web links, they could die.)
Here is a link to the trigger mod on the CMP web site.

Yes, the trigger can be modded per the "Pilkgun Mod", but you can also order all of the parts from Daisy to convert the trigger to the same trigger as the 753/888, both of those guns already comp grade. I ordered the parts to do both of my 853's for about $20. Here is the parts list for what I replaced in each gun...
888-6 (169633-K00) Hammer & Spring $2.50 (I had to replace the hammer due to wear from where the sear had cut a slot in it.)
888-3 (154132-100) Trigger Housing $3.50
888-5 (169764-K00) Trigger assembly $2.00
888-18 (169765-K00) Screw Assortment $3.00 (Do get the screw assortment because it has the trigger adjusting screw in it)
This mod is a complete rebuild of the trigger mechanism, and essentially converts the gun to a 753, except for the sights.
