More progress. Norm provided an old donor stock that I didn't mind cutting off. (Dave, the original stock is still intact.) The adapter block is finished and fully functional, except for the knob on the main air shut-off. The block will be powder coated black, which I think will look better.

Left side with the quick disconnect and the main air shut-off. The shut-off will be used for storage and when adjusting the regulator to a lower pressure.
The regulator is hidden inside the belly of the stock. It will have an external adjuster, which I have not added yet.

The shut-off is a quarter turn o-ring style (like on some paint ball bottles). It needs a knob and travel limit stops.
The surfaces of the adapter block and the stock are both sculpted to flow into each other. The same with the integral barrel band.

The right side showing the small gauge for the bottle pressure pressure, and the larger gauge for the adjustable regulated reservoir pressure.
Let's just say that the adapter block is very "busy" inside.

The Airforce bottle holds 490 cc's . The regulated tube holds another 100 cc's. Lots of air!

There's a good reason for the 100cc plenum.... Lloyd wants lots of regulated volume to keep the average pressure up during the shot.... My Hayabusa is a similar concept but I turned the tank around and it is under the main tube and is used as the forestock....

I know too much is enough. But enough is also enough. I'd plug it to determine exactly what is enough. It depends entitrely on how much power your trying to manage. I'm just betting that much is more than is needed and without 4 lbs of leaD IN THE STOCK THAT IS GOING TO BALANCE poorly.

This will primarily be a bench gun, reglated, .25 cal wth potential for going to a larger cal. The balance point is approx 1" forward of the midpoint btwn the trig & tank adapter block.

Considering the balance point is near the gage with a scope mounted, that isn't sooooo bad...

Have a cheer Tim, mine's not going to be reg'd and will have the tank much further back. If reg'd at some point, I will rig it like Bob's gun.

I can't hold an R7 anymore, much less a Mrod. The guns only going to be used on a bag or rest. Long range target shooting is the main purpose of this gun.

I certainly respect you years of experience, but Dave and I discussed at length what he wanted and that is exactly what I am building.
I see no need to defend this project, but I will present the relevant information for those that are interested. 8" of the airtube has already been removed from the gun; removing another 10" would cut through the middle of the valve.

Net weight gain on this gun, as shown, is approx 11 oz (1 lb reduction for the shorter air tube, 1lb 11oz gain from the bottle and adapter). The center of gravity has been shifted forward approximately 2 inches. Gain in air volume is almost 200%. If desired, the original CG could be restored by adding 7 oz of weight under the butt plate.

To more directly address your suggestions about required volume, and the balance of the gun, removing another 4 inches of airtube would give a net weight gain of zero and restore the CG to its original location. Adequate plenum volume would be a concern with larger calibers. But none of that was really a goal for this project.

IIRC, shortening the valve is possible to the tune of about 3/4"...may be useful for flow mods, though the return spring might get a bit sticky.
