My latest plinking target

I got tired of walking back and forth from my target to my bench to reset my plinking targets, so I decided to put a little thought into them, and came up with this. I have pieces of scrap metal bolted to door hinges. The hinges have limited travel in the "wrong" direction, so setting them in that direction yields 6 shootable targets.
I have a wire frame from an old door-hanging shoe rack that goes behind. It is held in place by two electrical staples.
After shooting the targets, they rest against the wire frame. A string run from the frame to the shooting area can be pulled to reset the targets.
If I had to do it again I think I would use some different wood to get rid of the splitting, but other than that I am pretty proud of it. I have 6-7 more pieces of wire frame, and TONS more scrap metal, so I'll have a nice little plinking gallery when I get them all put together. I spent about $12 on the hinges, and just used scrap wood I had laying around from other projects.

Right now I only have three guns. In .22 I have a TF87 that I shoot at 50 yds or less (open sights only right now. I'm hoping to put some glass on it for christmas so I can stretch it out a bit) and a B2-1 that groups about 2" at 10 yds, so it is a 10yd or less gun. I also have a 1377 that I'll shoot 25 yds or less. Open sights on it as well.

Yep....I concur....that's a great idea. A lot less expensive than the Gamo squirrel drop-down target that's for sure.

That's a cool idea. Do you have to use seperate re-setting strings for each wire frame or just one string attached to a bar to reset 'em all at once?

The 6 wire "loops" are all attached together as one unit (see the white bar in the third picture), so one string pull will reset 6 targets. I'm hoping this weekend is nice so I can get it out and do some real testing. So far all I've done is shoot at it from across the garage.

Well, They didn't perform as well as I had hoped, but the concept is solid. I used the cheapest hinges I could find, and onyl attached one corner of the target plate to on corner of the hinge. Getting smacked with the TF87 started to bend some of the hinges. So, I'll need to upgrade the hinges to ones that are wide enough for two attachement points, but other than that I loved it. Now I just need a few more guns that can put them down at 20+ yards.

My favorite for plinking is various sized plastic soda bottles. Particularly like the 8oz ones that tonic water comes in. I hang them with string from lower branches in the trees in my woods out back. The big challenge is to hit them still swinging from another hit. Coke had some perfectly round ones some time ago as a promotion and still have a few hanging out there.
