HW30S best caliber?

Yeah I have been spending my time of late with inexpensive med power springers.  When you can get em to work even at short ranges its very satisfying.  I only have 10 yards shaded so while we have the monsoon temperature/humidity my shooting is limited.  This is a friend shooting my refurb quest, still has the stock trigger but is surprisingly accurate.

Got my 1st .177 HW30s today from AofA.  It's perfect for the backyard, noticeably more solid feel than the B12's.  Out of the box I like the trigger, very clean break.  I'll be passing my .177 B12's on to friends now I think

Congrats Huklberry.......you will never be happier........it is so accurate......and you can still take care of the rabbit and squirrels and pocket gophers we have around San Diego....yet so small, light and fun......Congrats.

I put about 200 pellets in this afternoon, with the peep rear sight its great for my backyard.  Need to order more JSB RS's though down to my last 4 tins and I have several guns that shoot them.  What pellet do you find works well?

CPL....crosman premier dome 7.9 in box.........before PG2 are shooting at 610.........will see what happens after the tuning is finished by John in PA..........

Pretty good power with premiers for a un tuned gun, I was expecting maybe high 500's.  I am itching to see how much the tune affects performance.  Kinda wish you hax some numbers for a heavy pellet too...

I meant, to see what a difference it makes.  I can always just look at Straight Shooters for a reference but I figure it'll still vary from gun to gun, even with a product such as Weirauch.  I remember in Tom Gaylord's review, the hard premiers shot well but didn't shoot quite as fast as some softer pellets of similar weight.  At StraightShooters, it seems .177 premiers are peak performers- almost always in the top 2 or 3- as far as extracting the most power out of almost any powerplant. I used to think that they had a deal with Crosman, lol.

Those look like good numbers.  Obviously no powerhouse, but on par with a daisy 880- a dirt cheap, field proven small game hunter that's probably not nearly as accurate as the HW30.  I can't wat to see the results ofthe tune!  Has anyone ever tried the 7.4 grain crosman pointed hunting pellet in their HW30? It's a cheap pellet, but it might shoot really well in this one.  With a vortek'd HW30 topping 8 fpe, i think it would be the perfect combination of weight, power, and accuracy for an all day field gun... IF they are accurate in it

Has anyone ever tried the 7.4 grain crosman pointed hunting pellet in their HW30? It's a cheap pellet, but it might shoot really well in this one.

Mine is just a stock HW30S and I don't have a chrony but the Crosman Pointed pellets don't group well for me--even at just 10m--and the Destroyers are even worse.   

Mine likes the pricey H&N Spitzkugel 8.6 pointed pellets but ironically it does just as well with those cheap, dirty, and soft Daisy 7.2 gr Max Precision pointed that sell locally for $2 for 250.  You just have to run a few patches through your barrel every once in a while

The most accurate pellet I've found for it at 10m and less is the H&N Match Rifle--an 8.2 gr wadcutter in 4.50 head size.   They do even better in my rifle than the excellent domed JSB Match Diabolo Exacts.   

I have a .20 R7 on the way and am anxious to see what it likes.  I hope it's the JSB Exacts since they're much cheaper than anything else in .20 save the cylindrical Benjamins.   I have two other .20s--an older C9 and an older H series--and both shoot the JSBs really well.  I realize the R7 is a completely different animal though.
