Need help. Dis-assembling my HW 97

Hi.  I really, really don't want to screw this up so I am asking for help here.

I have lube tuned and done simple fixes ( replaced springs with kits and seals, polished spring ends, etc...) to my Diana air rifles and my Beeman R9.  I have a fabulously accurate HW 97 that I'm pretty sure has a broken spring based on how difficult it is to cock and the grinding sound that is occuring.   

I want to replace the spring and seal and check the internals. 

The only problem is that I can't remove the rear part of the tube that houses the trigger assembly.  It seems to be stuck pretty tight. I can't seem to remove it easily.

Does anyone have any tricks that will safely help me remove this so I can change the spring?  Pictures would be very, very helpful and I don't want to put any nicks into the metal assembly at all...any tools that work is also appreciated advice.

I know better and want to send it to a pro tuner, I just don't have the funds right now...

On my stainless 97 I found a bar that fit snugly into trigger slot....I lined the slot both sides with a thick plastic sheet sort of like from a oil jug.  I then held the rifle in my lap and whacked it counterclock wise with a rubber mallet.  Came right loose...mine was fairly new and did have some grease on the threads from the factory.

Not a mark was induced

beware of the spring load on the FAC spring but heck if its busted it will be greatly reduced BUT what if your guess is wrong???

my 12" crescent wrench if perfectly in my hw-55 . i took a hammer n smacked it and all it took was 1 smack . even though the spring is broke id still be careful as it might have some pressure on it

Nice video showing disassembly of the 97.  He makes it look pretty quick and easy for sure.  One thing I'd watch out for is substantially more spring load when taking off the rear end cap.  He probably has the German, low-power spring.  A full power spring for the US market probably will have a lot more force.  Make sure to be ready for that spring when you do take off the end cap.  Good luck and be safe!

Hey guys, looks like my suspicions are correct.  Broken  spring!  I am going to polish, re-lube and see if I can convince my wife that I need a new JM kit...

So I guess the cap popped open easily???  How old was that rifle??

make sure you clean very well don't want to miss a small chunk of that spring steel it will eat stuff up

Nope. It definitely needed some persuading and using a really firmed up grip in my compressor.  Translation, I used the wrench and a hammer and about 5 good swings to get the threads to break open....  The video that pOintnShOOt posted really helped a bit.

I am thinking about using some loctite to make sure it is solid when I reinstall does that sound ok?  or is it overkill?

Why make the next teardown almost impossible???  Its not going anywhere the beartrap bolt locks the alignment.  I would use moly on the threads so the next time its being opened under spring pressure it does not gal and wear.  Mine from the factory was greased with same grease they use on everything else.  I center my one piece BKL mount over that seam tighten the mount clamp.....to align dovetails....

THEN I tightened the bear trap bolt to lock alignment.

How old was that rifle??

Yes sir! The low powered Euro versions will have some preload, but nothing like a full power USA versions. Becareful, slow is smooth...when you take metal off you cant put it back.
