Sniper .25 cal after 800 rounds.

After doing a rough pellet tin count,I have shot 800 or so pellets thru my Sniper 125.
I cleaned the barrel and added 2 drops of RWS chamber oil to the chamber.
As luck would have it, about the time I pulled the trigger,on first shot,my neighbor has just come out to load his grill, with his back towards my direction. Well it sounds like a 30-06 going off and he jumps...joking yell...."you got me"!
All other shots were normal.
Did a chrony and it has settled in the high 780's to 794 of 10 shots...pellets being the 19.9 gr H&N FT's
The 26.gr. Poly Mags are now in the 713 FPS range.
So I seemed to have lost about 6-10 FPS,from when it was new. I guess this might be normal wear after 800 rounds?
Does heat and humidity have an effect on chrony speeds and rifle performance of a spring gun, since it was warmer today and more humidity since my first chrony test?

The drop in FPS from when new is probably due to the factory oils burning off and now your gun is settling in. I would recommend you
not
add anymore chamber oil to your rifle. It's not needed and you risk detonation and damaging the seal and or spring.

So why do the air rifle manuals,RWS in particular, call for this maintenance,if it could harm the piston/seals or spring?

It is meant for old air rifles with leather seals. I don't know why they still make it. It's.completely useless.

The only reason to use "Chamber" Oil is when you are going to lay the gun up for an extended period....or if the seal starts squeaking. Then...only 1 drop...and then let the gun sit muzzle up for about 24 hours.
Besides that, RWS makes money on it! Go figger!

In all my life of airgun shooting, I've never cleaned a barrel or added any cylinder or barrel lube, and that's since day ONE, way back in 1970'ish... Maybe I could clean a modern barrel every now and then but I never really had a need to. I've never had an airgun let go on me or otherwise fail or show symptoms of failing (with the exception of a Turkish Webley Patriot that I bought in that condition - poor fitting seal). Mind you, I never had a chrony until this year, so there may well be an argument for cleaning if velocities do slow down or whatever. Trouble with todays air rifles is that they are infinitely more powerful than those 20 - 40 yrs ago, so they may well need a bit of attention. I have too many air rifles now and don't really get to shoot any one of them frequently, instead I shoot many of them infrequently, because of this I don't really get the shot count up that high. I "may" overall shoot as many as others but spread over more rifles...

Ok glad that question has been cleared up. No more oil in the chamber.
