hw-55 got new life today

 ;Di just got done installing a new piston seal i got from p.a. it fit nicely. i cleanded it out and suprisingly no burrs german quality. then i took a shotgun cleaning rod and lubed the chamber lightly with grease installed the seal . while inside i cleaned all old caked grease out and lubed the trigger also. she dieseled for mabe 20 shots or so. then to the crony. its working in the 690-700 range shooting cphps. original spring was fine. when i got it .it was shooting in the 640-650 range but when you see the old seal i wonder how it shot at all.now easy cocking shoots where im looking. its not no magnum but a pleasent target rifle that is easy on my arms. but the quality inside has no equils from any other manufacturer

Nice job restoring that HW55 to its tip-top shape.  Glad the new seal worked out.  The old one definitely has seen better days! 

Where did you get your HW55?  I know you haven't been able to buy them for about 25 years new.  Also, approximately what year was yours made?  I'm thinking in the 70's sometime.  From what I know, these 55s have been around since the early 1950's.  There's a vintage airgun forum that has a lot of enthusiasts for this model and I can see why.

I got mine at a gun show years ago . its supposed to be a 1969 year of make according to the site you spoke about. i am on it also but a hw guru told me the age by its serial number. everybody wanted me to put in a new style piston seal but i got leather as i want it original and if leather lasts that long put it back like it was . thank you for the compliment on the gun . it has some pressure marks in the wood but perfect blueing. it has some nice figure in the wood but it dont show up in photos
