Chrony Info

Please share your knowledge with me concerning a crony. Specifically the various things that will affect the accuracy of the unit.

Things I think I already know:

1- Repeat hand placement and hold each shot
2- Environment, (temp, wind, etc)
3- Distance from muzzle to unit
4-Height the pellet enters and leaves the unit
5-Variance in pellet weight
6-?

Any other gremlins you have please share. I hope to own one soon and want my test to be accurate for comparison from one to the other.

works very well with little trouble. Sometimes I have to use the sun shades and sometimes I don't. If the shot is not just right it will give you a error code. If it is a clean pass your FPS will show.

Make sure its low enough so you dont blast it. I set mine up about 4 in lower than the barrel.

Place it about 12 from the muzzle.

If you shoot inside under florescent lights youll need the light kit for the chrony. Florescent lights will booger up your chrony cause it sense the light flickering basically. If you stare at one youll see the waves in it thats what the photo cells pick up and you wont see your pellets going over.

And youll need a tripod. I use my shooting base camera tripod. $15 at wally wolrd.

As for hand placement and hold as long as the barrel is in the same position so the pellet travels the same path, as close as you can get to it anyway, You could technically flip the gun over and shoot half the shots up side down. That would be dangerous so I dont recommend.

Just make sure you get it to shoot as close to the same path as possible.

You can use the chrony to get impact velocity. I have done that also, kind of interesting to see how much you loose at each range, but put something in front of it just to be safe. Dont want to shoot the chrony.

Its a bad dude. Really helps to trouble shoot when you have problems. Light kit is from same place. Little over 100 bucks for both. If you order the light kit get bulbs from the hard ware store. The one that it comes with are poop. 1 of mine was bad right out of the box. you could see the fillament was broke.

For my F-1 indoors I use LED closet stick on lights from Walgreens, < $7 for three.

I don't even fasten them to the screens.  Just turn on and set on top.

You can also get the features of the Alpha model from the F-1 by just adding a button switch and pluging into the port on the left side with a jack, some wire and switch from a Radio Shack for under $10.

My F-1 (circa 1988) is so old that it doesn't even have the port at all.

I have the Beta Chrony with the Chrony indoor lights that are made for it.  Very consistent with the lights. They are a must if you are going to chronograph your guns indoors.

Another thing that can affect the Chrony #'s is additional lighting in the room over the Chrony, like I have - ceiling lights.  I have to turn them off and I get more consistent and "real" #'s.  The lights from the Chrony are more than enough to see what I am doing and load the gun, etc.
