Crosman 38T serial number question

About a year or so ago I became interested in vintage air guns. Over the past few months I’ve purchased several Crosman 38T and 38C pellet pistols, all need to be resealed of course. And a few months ago I purchased a very nice 38T 177cal at a good price. But the serial number has got me puzzled. It’s the 9 digit serial number on the left side of the gun and as far as I know the first digit is supposed to be the month, unless it’s October, which would be stamped “O” or November, which would be stamped “N”or December which would be stamped “D”
This one has a serial number of 117985234.
So I’m wondering if in the beginning when Crosman switched over from the 6 digit serial number to the 9 digit serial number to incorporate the date of manufacture that they might have used the first TWO numbers as the month of manufacture to dating their guns. That would make sense being the 11 would stand for the month of November and 79 would stand for the year.
Anyone have an explanation or thoughts ? 😵💫

They might sound like a lot of work till you realize you only need 3-4 pumps for plinking.

Starting officially in July of '75 ( some 760's started a bit earlier in the year ) all guns are supposed to have a serial number with a date of manufacture at the beginning of it.
I don't know the deal with the O vs 10 deal or when that change was implemented , but my 38T was made in October of '77 with a 1077 serial number while my 357 was made in October of 1985 with an O85 serial number.
