To make sure it worked OK I first cloned my C; drive to a second spare drive. ( I have a external USB drive docking station to make it easy )

It upgraded to 11 and keep all my apps and data.
I then went through the Windows Update online and it did successfully update with the new monthly stuff.
I then test ran all my apps - they all ran OK without asking for any re-certifications or re-running the installs.

So I switched the drives back to the original configuration ( the original C: is a SSD where as the spare is a spinning HD )
I then repeated the process and upgraded the SSD to Windows 11 and all worked and now I have Windows 11 24H2 running.

( I have been reading and researching this for months - I did not want to install Win 11 without my apps )

OK done everythig as you say but at the end after reboot got error We couldn't install Windows Server.
0xC1900101- 0x20017 Installation failedin the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation.

Thanks I appreciate it. Looks like I stay where I'm at lol. I found the same info. It is a really nice older Acer laptop. Think I will just leave it alone. Nothing to lose on it anyway.

Yeah, My Win 10 machine was originally a 7 machine. I was probably lucky to get 10 to run without issue. I might be pushing my luck trying to get it to run 11. I think I'll leave it where it is. If it ever gets fubared after the support runs out I'll just follow DeZ's lead and upgrade the hardware.

The desktop tower I just upgraded is a Dell T1700 Precision with an Intel I7 ( 4th Gen ) Processor and 32 GB memory. ( CAD Workstation )

It has a Windows 7 Pro label on it. So it started as Win 7, then Win 10 and now Win 11.

I tried doing the Windows 11 upgrade to an old Dell Latitude D630 Core 2 Duo Processor with 8GB memory and running Windows 10 Pro.

No luck, same error as Bnowlin. But good thing it backs out of install and puts your original Windows 10 back.

Nothing gained, but nothing lost.

Mine was win 10 home so I thought that may have been the problem. Flyby11 is still a pretty good program. However I have read on numerous sites that the newest win 11 may have nixed some of the issues we faced.
I have a couple of slightly newer laptops I'm gonna play with later. Trying to get some sort of garden in right now.

I guess I did okay with 2 out of 3. My main desktop upgraded fine. My HP laptop upgraded fine. My backup or shop computer gave me the same errors everyone else is seeing. I tried 4 times with the same results. So, I went ahead and upgraded with the hardware that I had already bought off Fleabay. It is now also running W11. I'm done, I hope. LOL

And he has several combos for sale from $100 to $600, depending on what you need or want. Excellent prices, I believe. I'm very happy with the setup I bought.

Are you sure that computer makers are not kicking back to Microsoft, given that they are selling more computers to support a new OS system that "won't work" on older computers?
