Umarex Komplete Moderator removal

I bought the .22 version for my father in law and had it delivered here to my home so I could set it up for him.
 I installed a scope not the one that it came with and I took it out to zero it. Well it’s definitely not backyard friendly in its current condition.
I searched and searched for any guidance with no results so I decided what the heck and this how it went.

I degassed it and removed the action from the stock (hindsight I probably could have saved time by leaving it in the stock)

Removed the grub screw then I started turning the moderator by hand back and forth, it took quite a while to get it all the way off.

Once off I measured the outside diameter of the muzzle and then I went to  Donnyfl and ordered a slip on device 14mm to 1/2x20.
I plan on running a Fatboy.
I don’t know how to post pictures here and I’ll keep you updated once the slip on is delivered.

All this for him to control iguana’s at his sea wall.

Warren, I’m hoping to do the same with my komplete. How did the 14mm adapter work out?

Any pics of what the barrel looks like with the factory moderator removed?

Hey cage kicker i have the same gun I was wondering if you could let me know the od of the actual barrel I’m gonna do the same thing and run a aftermarket moderator but was hoping I could just have my work thread the barrel any info is greatly appreciated

I am assuming the OD is 14mm which is why cagekicker mentioned ordering that adapter. I ordered the same adapter and a donny Tanto hoping it will fit.

I am going to try the pull the moderator off in the next couple days before the parts get here. I’ll update with what I find.

I was thinking about using the shogun moderator or do you think the tanto would be better for this gun sorry I’m new at this pcp stuff

I am pretty new but I think any will do. I understand that to a point larger volume will be quieter. I just wanted to go with the most compact one which is why I chose the Tanto. If its still to loud I might go larger

I got the moderator off today. It’s essentially molded into groves in the barrel (see pic). I had to use a lot of heat from a heat gun directed into the grub screw hole to get it hot enough to soften the plastic so I could twist and slide it off. With enough heat it was easy enough.

I can confirm that the barrel OD is 14mm at the end. I think the 14mm slip thread adapter should work fine. Hopefully it covers up the groves on the barrel. (See pic)

Do not throw away the factory moderator. There is a shroud over the barrel and one end of the moderator acts as a bushing for it. My plan is to cut off that part and put it back on, maybe glue in place, before sliding on the thread adapter. (See pic)

Thanks for the pictures and info Zachag I greatly appreciate it and by the looks of things they didn’t want anyone taking the factory one off lol and yes I plan to make it look as factory as possible just with a better moderator.  Can’t wait to see the results of yours

No problem, happy help! I’ll update again after the parts arrive and I get them installed.

One other thing I recommend is a better scope, the one that comes with the Komplete does not hold zero and has terrible glass (I didn’t expect much from it).

I put on a HAWKE Vantage 2-7x32 AO Mil-Dot. It fits the stock rings so that saved me getting new rings. At 2x you see the moderator in the FOV but it disappears at higher magnification. That’s why I wanted to stay with a moderator the same size as stock so I wouldn’t obscure the FOV any more than stock.

I also put on a cheap $40 Amazon Magpul Mlok bipod clone. I haven’t tested it yet but it feels ok for half the price of Magpul.

Zachag I put a different scope on it out the box it’s a old scope but I’m probably gonna put my atn day night scope on it off my 22 nosler since I can set multiple zero profiles and I’m able to record with it as well and I’m not sure if I’ll run a bipod as I mostly use a bog death grip tripod but a good option that I have one 2 of my ARs is UTG recon bipods

Sorry George, I didn’t see this message until after I put it all together today. Maybe someone else can measure if they pull their stock moderator off.

Here is what I ended up doing. I cut the end of the stock moderator that fits into the shroud and turned it down to taper into the DonnyFL slip on and take up the space between the slip on and shroud.

I had to sand the barrel ever so slightly with 3000 grit to get it to where the slip on would  just barely get stuck when I tried to put it on. Then I heated the slip on with a heat gun so it would expand a bit and it slid on perfectly. This ensures an almost perfect seal. For extra insurance I used some blue locktite on the barrel before sliding on that slip on.

Zachag that looks good how much did it help with the sound

It tamed the sound a lot, the pellet hitting the target is louder than the sound of the gun

That’s awesome I’m having issues with the nitro tanks losing up even tho I tightened it really good then go to shoot the gun and it’s all leaked out to find the cylinder lose

And now to add to it it’s leaking air when I open the bolt up gonna try and send it back and get my money back
