IZH-46 service

I picked an IZH-46 from Mac1 back in '97 after I gave my Daisy 717 to a friend. In '99 I got married, took a new job and moved to another state. Until this fall, I hadn't shot anything (air or powder). Pulled my old IZH off of the shelf and the foam in the case had turned to gunk. Cleaned off the outsides and the gun seems to shoot alright. Ordered a cheap chrony and some plastic dropper bottles for oil and it is possible that I am good to go.

But... I would like to send it to someone who knows these guns and have them go over it, clean and lube the internals and make sure that everything is working as it should be.

Any recommendations on who I should send it to?

It used to be Tim McMurray but Time has had some health issues.
I would contact Motörhead on the GTA.
If all is in good condition, he can check it out for you.

I have an email in to Tim (at the address on his old site). I got the gun from Mac-1, and he would be my first choice. I am not optimistic about him being back in business yet.

Just an update... I oiled it and the pistol seems to be shooting fine. I do not yet have a chrono, so I don't know how FPS.

I am still concerned that some of the degraded/melted foam is in the works. It would be nice if I could have someone take a look, maybe clean it up a little, maybe make sure things are well adjusted.

I have taken apart a Crosman 2240, but I am reluctant to open up the IZH.

 Linkages are easy to deal with ... Main compression tube UNSCREWS from receiver.  If mechanical you can figure it out if willing to.

Tho with no service parts, if its working .... Don't screw with it !!!!

Remember to keep the bolt unlatched when storing to protect the bottom o-ring.

I have been keeping it pumped with the bolt unlatched. I am also slowly exercising it. (5-10 shots a day this week, more next week...).

My cheap Chinese chronograph came today. It says that the pistol is shooting at around 400 fps, which I think is about where it should be for a 46 non-M.

I think that I am going to just keep it and shoot it.
