I posted in the California events gate, but figured I'd throw this reminder in here, too:

I already have some GTA folks coming to the farm to hammer on ground squirrels for me. There's more than enough to go around, so there's always room for more folks willing to come shoot them... and coyotes, too (they tear up the irrigation in the almonds).

The deal is simple: You get to shoot on 900+ acres of farmland, and I get to know that someone is keeping pressure on the population because I just can't shoot as much  as I'd like to.

Like you...I'm coming from just over an hour away.  But------ Drew is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST HOST you could ever ask for!   
And...There's squirrels aplenty!  And...GREAT shooting ground!
Absolutely my favorite spot to spend a day!!!

My longest confirmed with an air rifle is 135 yards with my .22 S510. It shoots JSB 18's at 895, so at that range you could actually see the pellet as it slowed at the terminal end. I can honestly say I think that shot was more luck, than skill (yeah, I was prone with a bipod and had my rangefinder, blah blah blah... That shot was still at the extreme edge of the operational envelope, and I don't think I could consistently recreate it).

Some of the guys that are currently coming have slug guns that can really reach. I think there's some confirmed 200+ yards, and considering the time of year it happened that means that they were juvenile GS, so the target was smaller.

Right about now it would be a slog.  We're in the middle of an "atmospheric river" and everything in NorCal is soggy.  I bet the ground squirrels will stay holed up until things dry out.
But Drew, if you're reading, on the farm do they come out in our winter on the warmer sunny days?  I've seen some out on sunny winter days around the Richmond BART (train) station (!) but they are very urbanized and eat garbage.  Interesting note, they share their holes with rats: the rats sleep in by day, and the squirrels by night; maybe they share a common larder of collected burger buns and fries?

Funny enough, we're still working in the orchards, today, because the rain was all to the north of us (tomorrow will be a different story...).

Yes, GS will come out if it's warm... it doesn't even have to be sunny. But a bright, warm winter day? Oh, yeah, they move.

Ugh... I don't know if I hate GS more, or rats. They're both equally destructive for us...
