Dovetail to pic/weaver

Never had a problem with them moving, canting or coming loose. Once you tighten down the scope rings, then you tighten down the set screw on the adapter. Rock solid.

I have a set of those around here some place but I can't find them.
The thing for me is... if I'm going to use an adapter to convert dovetail to pic or weaver, why not just use dovetail rings? Basically cutting out the middle man.    Would an adapter not have the same issues that dovetail rings might have?

I tried those adapter inserts a few years ago and found that they were "a bit wonky"l on my "round receiver" HW95 so they were tossed.

Over the years I've been plagued with dovetail mounts slipping on my .177 Beeman R9 tuned to 13-14 fpe, even when the base screws were torqued to "destruction tightness". The mount stop pin even deformed my R9 & HW95 stop pin holes with recoil..........


I then bought a BKL two piece scope mount which uses no stop pins. Problem was that the scope and mount still slipped even though the base screws were torqued in excess of the BKL recommended max 35 in/lbs. LOL, you can see the "buldged base screw seats" from the excess torque in this pic.........


Another issue I had with the two piece BKL mount was that the scope tube was damaged when using a "normal" 15 in/lbs torque on the rather narrow top straps but the scope slipped when using 10 in/lbs of top strap screw torque.......


Next I bought a BKL one piece mount and it also slipped on the receiver using excess base screw torque just like the two piece mount...........



To solve the "deformed top pin hole issue" I machined a "sacrificial insert" for the receiver..........


The "scope mount hole sacrificial insert" solved the "reformed receiver issue" however after I bought a Hawke Airmax 30SF scope I found that the "normal width" of two 4 screw stop straps piece scope mount wouldn't fit between the scope bells without milling a notch in one of the mounts to clar the side wheel.........


After a bit of searching I noticed that there was a "narrow mount" with four top strap screws, however it was a "Weaver/Picatinny style" mount. To use this set of rings I found an UTG universal adapter which included stop pins and ordered one. The combination of "sacrificial insert", UTG adapter and narrow Vector Optics rings "worked a treat", even with the Hawke compact scope. LOL....no more scope slippage or further receiver tube damage.........

The rifles I use the UTG adapters on are all PCPs. Big difference from a springer, obviously.
