Are Beer Cans Made From Thicker Aluminum These Days??

I have recently rebuilt/resealed 3 Daisy "Tin Plate" BB guns recently.
A 111, 96 and 102-36.

All seem to shoot hard, bur NONE will penetrate the aluminum side wall of empty Yuengling cans.
All hit with a good thwap, but none break the skin.........

Are they underpoererd, or are beercans being made using heaview aluminum??

I would have liked to see Johm Madden rip the top off one of these..........

I don't know about beer cans, my beer comes in bottles.  Soda pop cans are definitely thinner than they use to be.

I don't think they're using a thicker aluminum but a thicker plastic inner liner Nothing like the old Black Label cans.

You should stop crushing those empty beer cans against your forehead. The cans are the same, its your forehead that has weakened.

I had to look that one up.
It's the oldest beer brewery in the U.S. !
It is supposed to be available in my state now. The canned beer reportedly has better taste than bottles because they don't use brown bottles.
There was no information about the can construction.

Currently working at a brewery. Distribution is all kegs and cans. LOTS of cans! If anything the Aluminum is getting THINNER to reduce cost. CAN LINER (epoxy/plastic) may be getting thicker? Most beverages wiil EAT THROUGH unlined Aluminum in a couple days.

I grew up on Olympia and Hamms….those cans were definitely thicker….lol….good luck

Not sure, but this beer might have required thicker aluminum due to potential decomposition from the contents. A Pittsburgh legend.

  I rebuilt my 102-36 using Cobalt's power spring and air tube.  After seeing this post, I tried the shot into a Yuengling tall beer can after emptying it of course. It's really good beer.  At 15 feet the BB passed through both sides with nice big holes.  Then tried it on a steel soup can and it split the metal good but did not go all the way in.  The power spring makes a big difference and I have one in several Daisy guns that shoot even harder with longer barrels.  Really perks up a Red Rider.

I know some cans are thicker- like Sapporo (brewed in... Canada?).  Lately we've been drinking mostly Modelitos in the teensy glass bottles and Coors, in the Banquet fat bottle.  Not much in the way of cans except Mich Ultra (which is about as thing as a can gets), and the occasional (or not so occasional) Nat-Lights.

Dunno what happened- I used to dislike beer and opted for ciders, but most of the ciders I find locally (and I live in Cider Country now!) are too dang sweet.  OTOH, Sonja and I both have a passion for our Mexican beers, with Natty Light, Coors, and Mich Ultra tossed in.  the latter is what our neighbor (the local farmer) drinks and we seem to keep it on hand now.

My CZ still blasts through the Mich Ultra cans at 40+ yards, even with H&N Excite wadcutters- pretty impressive given that springer at the muzzle sits right at 10.3 FPE.  Once I either recharge the gas piston in the Hatsan- or replace it- those Sapporo cans will no longer resist pellets.

Back in our sailing days,we would pull into an anchorage, tidy up the boat, hang and light the grill,
then pop the top on a Fosters Oil Can........garnered many looks when taking a pull off a 32oz beer can........

Ahhhhhhhhh, I remember those days well............

I had a couple of Sam's Cola soda cans balloon from leaving them in the coldest spot of the refrigerator. Brought me here to mention this. Pepsi cans didn't balloon, so I think the cans Sam's is using are thinner or weaker.
