WalMart Clearance Goodies!

I do not know how widespread this is, but my mid-Mo Walmart had lots of airgun stuff on 50% clearance:

Daisy 25 count CO2 $9 (36 cents per cart)
Gamo and Crosman pellets -- several types $3/tin instead of $6.  I got some destroyers and some with the embedded BB to try out.  Redfires were on clearance but gone.
Daisy BBs, various counts
Yellow silhouette targets -- $4.50 / 4-pack, usually $9 or $10
Daisy 1999? lever action in teal green as $20 I think instead of $40
Barra gold something -- I think it was a CO2 BB repeater "rifle" -- sold out so I only saw the tag.

Glad I stopped in, I was only after .177 CPHPs (full price), but left with two bags full of goodies.

I was in town yesterday and swung by Walmart.... no sales on anything AG related.

I've seen many Walmart clearance events and a couple decades ago asked an associate about them. He said in most cases each individual store picks a certain department at a certain time of the year, sets a dollar target, then clearances almost everything to flush out old inventory. Some clearance items are flushed in all stores but usually these events are very store and department specific.

Some of my more rural Walmarts even had "Tent Events" where they brought all the clearance items outside.

The only way to find these clearance items/events was to visit your local stores and search for them.

With the rise of online shopping (and likely better inventory control) these events seem to be happening much less often today.

MANY different airguns typically 1/4 normal price. I got lucky and stumbled across one airgun purge a few years back that included some Benjamin pumpers, Daisy springers, several different co2 pistols, and Daisy880s for $15. That's where my only 880 came from. Hindsight is 20/20 so I now know I should have grabbed SEVERAL 880s for that price! I'm not a good shot with co2 pistols but for $5 a couple made their way home with me ;-)

I checked online, shopping "my store" and just a few of the clearance items were listed there at clearance prices.  Most others were out of stock and listed at the original price.

I should have mentioned these items were all still in the sporting goods area, not in the co-mingled flea market clearance aisles.   To make it somewhat difficult, both regular and clearance shelf labels are yellow. 

The deals you mention finding are tremendous -- I would not be surprised if employees skimmed a lot of the cream off the top before we ever see them...one of the few perks of working there, I imagine.

I was at a local Walmart earlier today. Found several clearance items in their normal area (not the mixed clearance aisle). Tried to find those items online via my phone and Walmart wifi. None showed up online.

Another issue was that one specific item (normal item, not clearance) that was the PRIME REASON I stopped at the Walmart was not available. I CHECKED Walmart online for that specific store and the website confirmed a healthy stock of that item and even listed the aisle#. Nope! Not on any shelves, end-caps, or floating displays. Associate couldn't locate item either.

I suspect they are not overly concerned with making their exact inventory and pricing match their online data.

My point being "don't trust the online inventory and pricing".

... and no airgun related clearance items in this store, today :-)

Found myself back today --- not airgun related but on the shelf over, hearing protection, Ghost Stryke Ear Buds - 29 dB any sound over 90 dB, and up to 6X amplification, 50% off. Got them for $30. I don't think they ever hit market acceptance, but they seem to work (haven't finished testing them yet).

Not much marked down though, just 3 or 4 items.

I got a box of 50 Wilson pvc golf tubes for 10 cents each  one January clearance

made an EDF   hotliner glider  with 50mm  alloy ducted fan unit   using 10 LB holding velcro mounted on the wing

tail made from Garage Sale 3mm corplast sign

airframe components all screwed in with  2mm servoe screws

battery hatch consisted of a medicine bottle sliding in and out  with plastic  Easter egg nose cone

Another Walmart airgun clearance update.

I went to a different nearby store maybe a week ago -- no airgun clearance at all.

Went to the original store again today -- three weeks later.  I was surprised anything was left, but it was, and lots of it was 75% off.   This time I snagged an extra tube of pelgunoil for $1.50, more yellow 4-piece silhouette targets for $2.50 a set, a re-settable field-target-ish squirrel for $5, a pad of Daisy targets for $1, and one of those blue/teal stocked Daisy 1999 "big loop" springer "rifles" for only $10!  They had several more of those guns, but I don't have anyone to give them to, and shipping costs would mostly negate any savings...so they're still there.   

Haven't tried it out yet  -- maybe tomorrow I'll do my best Chuck Connors imitation.

Nice.  You got some great bargains.  I check my local walmart every time the wife and I are in the store and while they still sell some air rifles and some pellets they've eliminated 95% of the items they used to stock and what remains seems to never be on sale.   Glad you're getting some hot deals though

Was thinking the same thing. We are low on a couple of vitamins and we normally get shampoo, soap, bleach, and things like at WM, and she is bugging me to go.  When I am there I always check the Sporting Goods section but I usually get disappointed.  They only carry a few airgun related items nowadays which are locked and of course no one is ever around.  Even the gun cleaning stuff has been reduced, and they are always out of cleaning patches and CLP.  They don't stock up like they used to.

It never hurts to look while you're there anyway. 

The associate told me they were getting ready to reset the department, so that's why stuff was reduced.  Apparently it happens at the manager's discretion, so yeah, every store may be different on when it happens.

The Daisy 1999 is... interesting.  I haven't tried a gun like this in decades.  Rear sight is tack welded on and only adjustable for elevation, and the POI windage is waaaaay off.  Like... line the (fiber optic) front sight up above the middle of the left half of the rear blade off.  Anyone know if the shot tube/barrel is tweakable?  The cocking lever feels like plastic.  It ratchets 7 clicks to fully cocked, and only then can it be returned.  I did not test, but I bet it wont fire unless the lever is returned, too.   Manual (plastic) cross bolt safety is nice -- I expected something annoyingly automatic.  Overall pleasantly surprised other than the serious windage issue.
