You may be right, they might need all that fossil fuel to produce all the EV stuff.

But in reality.. I agree that something needs to be done to reduce the damage being done to our environment. I also have concerns about depleting the natural ballasts that stabilize the earth's rotation. We don't hear much about that but I can't see it not being an issue. Virtually everything we collectively do as a species will have an affect.. some good but most, not so much.

Not sure why anyone would "plunk down a deposit" on a vehicle that isn't sitting in front of them.

I read somewhere that the bright boys are looking at Ammonia as a fuel. Byproducts of burning it are water and nitrous oxide. Isn't that laughing gas?  How they split the ammonia is still dark and the environmental affects in and near the car: who knows . One thing for sure is there is not going to be any free rides .

Closest thing to a free ride is my skateboards and bicycles.  The big revolution in much of the world is the shift from gas/diesel motorcycles to e-bikes/e-cycles.  Literally a gamechanger when you can charge up via solar or wind or hydro power.  Sure those technologies still take power to make power.

I'm just looking forward to when my main maintenance costs are... tires, wipers, and topping off the washer fluid.

Horses need shoes, farrier is a valuable trade.  Horses are okay but I'd far prefer a mule or donkey.  I prefer a bicycle and mechanical advantage over an animal that needs it's own infrastructure support system.

Everybody freaks about auto emissions.  OPE (outdoor power equipment) and flying put out way more emissions.  Easy-peasy: focus on E-equipment and phase out 2-strokes faster. Say bye-bye to all jets and force adoption of dirigibles for flights with E-motors and photovoltaic rigid skins.  New and very pure helium deposits were recently discovered. 

But everybody focuses on convenience and ICE is convenient.
