where pellets and pellet guns (like his 717 and 600) were for killing- mainly water moccasins. My 760 along with the Daisy Buck and 880 Powerline for plinking.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. A 880 AND a 760 both put out more power than a 717. not the 600, as now we are talking .22 but the 717 is and was a lesser pesting tool, comparerd to the more powerful 760 (even though it was a smoothbore) and the rifled 880.
As far as categorically stating that BBs are for plinking, that my friend is your opinion. There have been a lot more pests taken with BB guns since the invention of it, especially here in the US than we can count as modern airgun hunters (conveniently we also count as kids hunting with BBs, if that is how we started). We are not saying that they are optimal, but yes, you absolutely can hunt or pest under appropriate circumstances with a BB gun. Accepting what you are saying as the rule, more than an exception is like arguing with the Brits about the feasability of pesting or hunting with an air pistol. Yes, they are right that you are more likely to be more accurate with a rifle than a pistol, but if your pistol has enough power, and you are proficient enough with it, then it is perfectly fit for the job.
Something tells me this thread is going to be locked up in the near future. I think we should let do and only emphasize the requirements for a succesful culling instead than shacking the ethical stick at brother airgunners...
