Question re. Crosman bulk fill CO2

I've got a couple of the gigantic CO2 fire extinguishers that used to be mounted on fire trucks.   Could they be used to fill up old Crosman bulk fill air pistols?   A friend has one of those old Crosmans and offered it to me.   I might have a lifetime supply of CO2 in the extinguishers.

The tanks from the fire truck have the fire extinguishing inside them. I not a chemist or a mechanical engineer but I don't think there's a way to filter the gas to get a clean fill of CO2 from them.

There are Co2 fire extinguishers,  you may have to invert it to get liquid Co2 for bulk fill unless it has a siphon tube inside.

I'm guessing that you are thinking about a different kind of CO2 fire extinguisher.   Mine look somewhat like a regular cylindrical extinguisher except they are much larger and much heavier.   I've blown them off for fun and I didn't see anything come out but gas and dry ice.  But then my observations are those of a non chemist also.

I guess then, that I'd have to hoist the tank upside down and find the right fittings to attach to a CO2 gun tank.   If this is possible, I'm sure someone else has done it before me.   This could be more trouble than it's worth.  But if I take the gun it would be nice to have free CO2.

My apology for my earlier reply, A CO2 Fire extinguisher does NOT need inverted as it does have a siphon tube.
 I was thinking of a CO2 tank for a soda fountain.
CO2 F.E.'s are class B-C and extinguish the fire by displacing the oxygen. That siphon tube is picking up liquid CO2 and why they can spit dry ice.
 Class A use either CO2 gas or compressed air over water to provide the pressure.. do not use those.
AND.. make sure it is CO2, not Halon or Dry Chemical.

So in theory, if you could get adapter fittings between the valve assembly on the extinguisher and the fill valve on the AG, it should work.   At about .3 grams of CO2 per shot, I've got enough CO2 for around 120,000 shots.

Would you not also need to have them hydro-tested to get them filled?

They are full and have been sitting in my garage for 20-25 years.   Way past expiration date of the tank.
