Wow...Randall Scores Again... on another Big Rat ! Congratulations.... that one looks huge.Best Wishes - Tom
Randall, if you take out the whole family, what will you have to shoot at? Very nicely done! Those are a different kind of rat than the ones I shot in Louisiana. We actually had two common types of rats: The larger one found in old barns we named "Barn Rats". The smaller ones were found in the pastures and fields along the fence rows. Those were called the "Field Rats". DUUHHH!

LOL....well, I do give them a few days to "settle" in but this species (rattus rattus ie roof/fruit rats) are territorial so they run offf/fight with others as family units so they don't congregate like farm/sewer/norway rats do. During mating season, I watch them chase each other on our brick wall, fighting, always the males, and the adult males usually have tattered ears and chewed up tails, the females don't fight. So once I take out the resident male and female and any pups, it takes a week or so for new ones to venture in which they always do! Then the cycle resumes...😂. Also, these are very quick and agile and move like giant mice climbing str8 up brick walls and traverse tree limbs like no other!
Nice one Randall!

Randall, no wonder you are... a Master Rat Slayer... like BenjiHunter was. >> ALL RATS BEWARE < > When Randall Draws Near ! <<Best Wishes - Tom
Good shooting on number five. You have developed quite the rat killing system. Love that you’re able to tell that the rat was fighting because of his chewed up tail.
Nice rat, there is an endless supply...
Great shot Randall! Good to see the traffic picking up for you! You sure don't want those rat sniping skills to get rusty... Traffic has really picked up here, but I'm trying to practice restraint! Well, on the day time crowd anyway... I'm up to three now! This morning I checked the critter cam notification and had over a hundred between 12:00 and 4:30 am! The nocturnal rats were really partying last night! Still only seeing two at the feed station and one at the fence line! They all appear to be getting more comfortable and bold. The day time rats were chasing away the birds yesterday! I hope to lul them all into a false sense of security and hopefullt, they will show themselves during hours I'm actually awak and functioning! It's nice that yours are being so accommodating to your sleep needs!!!
I'm not sure I have 3 species, definately 2 though. The daytime rats are Cotton Rats the nocternal are common Norway Rats (I think). I just have them coming from 2 different locations. The 2 at the feed station come from the brush pile, same as the Cotton Rats, the one at the fence line I think is coming from a large wood pile my neighbor has stach near our fence line, which is in close proximity to the fence camera and where I put down seed. It's just a matter of time before I lose patients and start blasting rats!
In that case, then I think they are Fruit Rats, all I have seen lately have tails longer than their bodies and are greyish brown. Good to know I won't end up with hourdes of them organizing and over running the homestead!

LOL! 😂 You are the only person I know that gets more than one species of rats plus you get mice occasionally! But you also get bears, coons, bob the cats, pumas, possums, squirrels, coyotes, birds of all sorts, wooly mammoths 😂....you certainly have the most diverse menagerie of wonderful creatures I've seen! Very envious in a good way as I do luv nature! 🙏 Do you have iguanas in your neck of Fl.!?
