Just got a Beeman P 17 Shot about 100 rounds through it and its great so far. Have not noticed any reduction in velocity but dont have a chrony so not sure. Anyhows im getting used to the trigger and am shooting about nickel sized groups at 6 yards with 2 hand hold. Oiled it with lithium white grease. Plan on getting a pell oil substitute as the real thing costs 5 dollars. Maybe getting some silicone shock oil from hobby shop for that. Actually groups are getting tighter so not sure if velocity is dropping indicating bad seals.

I purchased a P-17 about a month ago and have had zero issues with it. I have a 2X20 Leupold EER scope mounted on it so I bought a second one two weeks ago for open sight shooting. It to has had zero issues with about 100 pellets through it and about 200 pellets through the first one.

Great little pistol! I also have the IZH-46M and the Crosman 2300S which I shoot regularly.

Thanks for the info have not looked at pistols for while. Must have been thinking of the P5. Should have checked before posting. But with the input I have learned something. Might have to look into one. thanks again

If metric isnt working try SAE o-orings...

Try looking for what seals the german made p3/hw40 uses. Believe those use SAE o-rings.

What kind of red-dots are you guys using?
I'm not sure i want a pistol scope after all... and honestly a lil confused by which kind of red dot to get.
All my p17 shooting (well after i tossed out the red-dots they came with) has been open sight, and while i've been getting 4/5 shots exactly where i want... i seem to ruin either that 1st short or the last shot. Get in a rhythm and i get almost no strays...

My groups are getting smaller and smaller with this pistol. Starting to be able to hit where i point it at 6 yards two hands. Also im using cheapo crosman destroyer ex as this pistol seems to like these. Some pells fit just right and some are a bit tight. Seems the loose ones are more accurate. Wonder what this pistol can do with better pells and even match grade ones. So far i dont notice any pressure loss. Dont have a chrony but its hitting real consistent. i have some xman premier hollows and all seem to be tight fits. Have not shot for accuracy much because of this.

Sure, its not as good as the p3/hw40, but the p17 sure is a great clone.

Functionality (with the proper o-rings, only slight difference in powerplant's dimensions & materials of mfg.)
Similiar Trigger (difference in materials of mfg.)
Accurate (sadly not as accurate, but fairly close, think it was .625" vs .5" forget if that was 10m or 15 ft... think i rounded up from .48")
Costs over $100 less

At an air pistols effect range;
Just casual plinking, you'd probably never notice the difference in accuracy.
It is a different story, if you were target shooting, but then you'd want to be using something better then a p17/p3/hw40 if you were that serious about target shooting. Don't misunderstand, a P3/hw40 is a good start, just not in the same league as an Izh 46 (or better).
So for casual plinking, and trying your hand at target shooting the p17 isn't that bad, especially at its price point.
It fills a very nice niche...
For my own needs I saw no reason to spend more for basically the same exact loading and targeting procedure. Instead I saved some $, which allowed me to 'invest' in other air guns, neither of which are match grade. So I'm happy with it.
Probably going to spend more on a decent red dot for it, then it cost. Or maybe try a leapers bug buster.

i have the marksman 2004 model,owned her for about 7-9 years.
its fun,cheap,accurate.
never had a single issue with it....ever.
still shoots great.
415 fps with cphp,1 inch-1.25 inch group at 10 yards off hand....best $40 pellet gun ive ever owned.

Thanks for the information on the o-rings. Since becoming more involved with pellet guns this year, I have learned more about o-rings then I ever wanted to know! I'm still have a lot to learn about airgun maintenance.
I ordered some Viton rings today.

I bought the Nitrile O-rings, will they suffice? I have all the right sizes. Are the nitrile as good or almost as good as the uber-expensive viton ones??

As there is no co2 involved nitrile should be fine but viton would be best for long life. If you can check the breather hole in the cylinder for burrs that goes a long way to improve the life of your piston o-ring.

I've put quite a few Destroyer pellets through mine, but I've discovered mine seems to like Beeman wadcutter pellets better...give 'em a try....certainly cheap enough.

With a 7.9 pellet at 410 fps you get 2.95 foot-pounds I wouldn't try it too big a chance to just wound. Plus you're not really getting 410 fps out of it more like 380 fps. You would need a minimum of 478 fps to get 4 foot-pounds.

When it comes to pest elimination with the P17, using Predator Polymags greatly improves the potential for killing.
I've taken adult rats and sparrows with a P17 and polymags with no problem.
The starlings were always too far away.
Also boils down to shot placement too.
If the sparrows/starlings are within say 20 yards, you should be able to drop them easily.
Otherwise, power drops off very quickly with distance, when employing the P17.
Starlings I've always killed with my air rifles because they are 30~50 yards away, and there needs to be enough power left at impact to drop em. Chest, head, and back shots drop em. Through the wing usually results in them gliding into another yard before they expire.
