So I gave in to the Dark Side....

Been looking PCP's for a while now, and couldnt take it any longer. I needed one! Decided to go to Precision Airguns. Heard good things about em and they are only an hour away. Best decision I made! Very Friendly, Very helpful, and Jim took time out of his lunch to help me with all my questions. He has a nice setup over there, too.
So I ended up leaving there with the whole package:
- .25 MRod
- Hill's Pump w/Foster Fitting (Didnt want/have money to drop on a tank setup)
- UTG 3-9x50AO Scope and Mounts (Probably upgrade scope later on)
- Extra Mag
- Single Loading Tray
- Pellets (JSB Kings, Benji Domed, H&N Barracuda's)
- Patch Worm
I absolutely love this gun!!! Really quiet and has a lot of power! I know I should post some pics, so I'll try to post some tomorrow.
I have a few questions though. I filled to 3000psi and shot down to 2000psi. I got two full mags (16 pellets) with that. Is this normal? I thought I would have gotten a few more at least out of it. Also I noticed that I'm clipping the inner part of the shroud cap. Do I just ream the hole out bigger to fix it? Last one, what do you guys suggest for maintenance with this rifle?

For the clipping....have heard of this happening occasionally. Standard response is to remove the shroud end cap, remove the o-ring that is between the cap and first baffle, remove all baffles, remove shroud (it untwists). Then reassemble, firmly tightening the shroud and end-cap to hand tight. Don't forget that little o-ring.

congrats by the way on an excellent rifle and don't believe the bit about cookies. all of the cookies are stored on your cpu
for maintenance run a dry patch or cleaner pellets through it maybe every 1000 rounds or so, or if you notice accuracy is suffering. maybe once a year i would take it all the way down and wipe down everything and put a very small film of divers silicone in my air tube/orings( a preventive measure from moisture in the air). put a small amount of divers silicone on the breech oring when you notice the bolt getting tighter when closing. you will fill it dragging across the oring. wipe down the outside with a good oil of your choice to prevent rust.
as far as the clipping goes. it shouldn't be clipping. this will affect accuracy. remove the end cap, then the baffles, then unscrew shroud. i like to wipe these baffles down occasionally as they will build up lead dust. reinstall the shroud. screw it down snug. hand tight but not gorilla grip. reinsert the baffles, then the oring, then the end cap. tighten the end cap snug as well, but don't over do it. if still having a clipping problem then try using a small wooden dowel to align baffles when reinstalling. not supposed to just unscrew the shroud with baffles and end cap attached and just screw it back on as an assembly. always reinstall it piece by piece.
hope this helps. wasn't trying to sound condescending if you already knew any or all of this.

Hi 85.
I have had my 25 mrod for seven months now. I fill to 3000 and 16 shots later it is down to 2000 with factory settings. These 16 shots will give me a 2in group or less at 50 yds. For accuracy fill to 2800 and get five shots at half inch or less. This is great for hunting, but I have been thinking about a disco for a higher shot count when plinking and less pumping.
Don't worry about the clipping it will fix itself in the next 100 shots. If not crosmans got your back.
Happy shooting,
George

There is a mod to help make sure you are getting the baffles centered. Make a single wrap of tape around the outside of the baffle and make sure you do not overlap the ends. This little bit extra width will help center the offending baffle. Worth a try.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll take as much as I can get.
Was taking a look at the end cap and first baffle (didnt tear into it yet) and I noticed that now the endcap is perfectly fine! No sign of clipping like before. I know it was there cause my brother and my friend both saw it. But now nothing! I dont get it but I think I'm still gonna tear the shroud off and baffles out to see if maybe what I saw was pieces of a shroud that got clipped further down.
As far as only getting 16 shots, I just wanted to make sure that was normal. Exactly 2 mags worth and they're all gonna be heavy hitters. I think I can deal with that. LOL. Maybe I can make it more efficient to gain a couple more shots.
Oh also I dont have a chrony yet but before I mess with settings and tuning I'm gonna get one.
Also heres the pic I said I would add. Nothing special but just to prove it happened. LOL

must be a small pita to hand pump a mrod i got my disco friday and the the first time i pumped i went from 1k to 2k fairly easly. 10 minutes i was down to 1k psi after shooting. i pumped to 2400 and while it wasnt that bad, right around 2100 or 2200 hte pumping got to where i was glad i only a few psi more to go... when i get my 25 mrod im gonna try pumping it up once or twice but i plan on having a tank setup for that rifle...
16 shots at full power isnt to bad for a hunting rifle, but if your punching paper id deff try and tune for a few more shots.
also is 2in groups at 50 yards normal for a 25 mrod ? i figured a 25 mrod would be 1in or less at 50 yards

congrats on the new mrod. Start saving your pennies for a tank, maybe you can find a used one. Pumping from 2000 to 3000 is going to get old real fast with 16 shots per fill.

Yeah pumping does kind of not so good, but its not that bad. When it starts getting to about 2500psi then I start putting my weight on it. Only gripe is how little the pressure goes up per pump, the needle barely moves per pump.
I need start looking into a tank a bit more, but the way it looks right now, I'm gonna need the tank AND a shoebox compressor. I really dont know if I want to spend that kind of money. I need to start my actual firearm projects sometime. LOL. I might be able to go with a Guppy tank and get it filled at a local paintball shop. Almost positive they can fill to a full 4500psi, dont think they will fill a 80cu. ft. tank though.
As far as accuracy goes, I havent takin it out past 20-25yds yet. Trying out the different pellets I have and go from there. As a lot of people with a .25 Marauder, mine likes the JSB Kings and Benjamins a lot. The Barracudas werent far behind. But I made a couple 8 shot groups (1 full mag.) that were covered by a dime. Thats like what about 1/2" center-to-center, tops?
Oh one more thing, is this party BYOM (bring your own milk) over here or did I not see it? LOL

If your paintball shop can fill to 4500, they will fill an 88 cf tank. Call them to make sure. I'm sure you can find a good used tank. Joe Brancato has them from time to time.

Alright I'll look into some more and see what happens.
I'm thinkin about tryin out Airgas, and tryin to find a scuba shop by me to see what psi they go up to. Anywhere else I might be able to try (besides fire station)?

Good luck at the fire station. Most of them in my area won't fill tanks now, because of the liability. One thing to think about. If you get a Shoebox, you don't need a big 88 cf tank. Get a 17cf guppy. Lots of fills and it's quick to fill. It takes the Shoebox around 4 hours to fill my 88 cf tank from 3000 to 4500

Unfortunately, I'm tryin to stay away from a shoebox compressor. By the time I get a shoebox and guppy thats another $1000 right there. Maybe later on I'll end up doing that but right now I really dont want to.
