AEA Challenger .30 Ammo

Hey all. Going to order the Aea challenger .30. Was wondering what you all recommend for ammo. Pellets? Slugs? Will the .308 slug work via single shot? Thanks!

 I bought my Challenger because I had a NOE pellet mold for .30, and needed a gun to shoot them, also have some NSA slugs that fit the mag and shoot well, main thing is they need to be heavy enough to stay sub sonic, about a 50 gr pellet, and 60 gr slug will fit the mag and do quite well also.

James last time out with mine I turned it to the 10 oclock position and it was shooting my NOE pellets very accurate.
I need to get back out with that gun again because it's not really super loud and shoots excellent.

I shoot the vortex pellets with the power turned down with ok results. I've been waiting for someone to try some nsa slugs and give a report.  I've been told the jsb pellets shoot well.  I'm to cheap to experiment with the nsa stuff, way to cheap for jobs so I think my aea challenger bullpup with the 32" barrel will be for sale soon.  The shot cycle with this gun is just too violent for me. It's worse then a magnum springer out the box.

If the slugs or pellets go supersonic do they tumble?

 Possibly, or just more prone to wind drift at the lest. but going up to sonic then back to sub sonic is the rough part of the flight.

Is the 60 gr. slug your talking about at .308”  dia.?

 My bad I got the maximum weight that would fit the mag mixed up with the actual ammo I have. I have the 54.5 gr. IMO they are possibly slightly undersize, feed real easy in the breach, but shoot well.

I use the 44 and 50 grain JSB's and FX Pellets and it's hole in hole!  Very pleased with the accuracy of this rifle!

Thanks for that link.... that answers a lot of questions I had about slugs in the .30 AEA Standard rifle.

Just got off the phone with Bin at the “pellet shop”. He says nominal bore size for that rifle is .301”.
I suppose that could vary a bit from rifle to rifle, but should be very close?
I think if I get a .30 cal. I’ll be contacting someone like
“Accurate custom molds”  for one that drops around .302 to .303” so I could size down to .300” to say .301” or .302” or where best accuracy comes in at.

One thing is for sure lol, if I get a .30 cal., i’ll be slugging the bore before I order a mold.

 I found a post on another forum that stated this mag also fits our AEA Standard guns. I broke my factory mag right away trying to feed the NOE 59gr. pellets I cast, they were a bit too tall for OEM mags. These 3D mags have plenty of room and cycle perfectly with my home brew pellets now

James, the Maple Leaf guy on ebay has mags that work with the Challenger Standard as well, but don't know if they will work with your cast pellets...

I have a 30 cal Terminator and the .303 slugs shoot best out of mine.  I shoot the 47.2 gr and they shoot well.  I thought that all the AEA 30's had .303 bore size.
