I used to bowhunt this valley way before I ever got into airguns so it has to be 17-18 years ago.

I heard a couple years ago that now the area has Spanish goat in it.

Yesterday I had my first chance of going to scout the valley,....it changed so much since last time I was there, like most valleys do around here even in short time spans.

Anyway, at 12:15 I got into a nice heard, then 20 minutes later I saw 3 more goats and I even got into 2 small hogs at around 1:30.

Hopefully in the near future I'll find sometime to go hunt there,...it should be fun

How big are those goats Manny? I'm wondering what will be your weapon of choice? Do they taste as good BBQ as the goats on the mainland?

The old males get pretty big, I will be bringing one of my REX .357 goats are easier to take down than pigs with the body shot

Was just fine tuning my zero on the REX .357 Mini-Carbine shooting the Matts bullets 158gr Hollowpoint at 25 Yards.

She is the gun of choice for this hunt.

Nice find brother. Hoping you can bag a goat. Just a few quick insights.
When dispatching goats, the meat of the older animals can be rather tough, and more than a little gamey. So if harvesting older animals, they taste better in stews and curries and such other slow cooking methods. In curry, spicy with hot peppers and coconut milk is best.

I suggest a smaller more tasty specimen. There won't be as much meat, but it makes up for that with flavor and tenderness and shorter cooking times.
But if you do opt for a big billy, I highly recommend you try it in a West Indian style curry.

Could always compromise and take a old doe. More tender than the Billy and bigger than the youngling. Also will take a non breeding animal out of the heard, providing more food for the breeding does and younglings.

I guess the decision will be made in the field, in the heat of the moment.

I might be able to swing it Thursday,....it will be great to see goats in action such a different type of hunting compared to hogs.

Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to go today, Saturday I have to go get my weekly test so I don't have to take the vaccine,...Sunday is my next window, hopefully I manage to go.

The smaller ones are easier to get home. Plus if the quicker you run out of meat the sooner you get to go and get more.
