I chose the Eagle Claw, the lever action is cool and finish is good. What's not is the short stock, OK is your 4' tall, not so if your 6'2". My other gripe is when I hand pumped from 100 to just under 200 bar the pressure release valve on the hand pump also released the rifles air reservoir. That should not happen. Wondering if I made the right choice.I'm only 5'10" and find my Eagle Claw LOP to be fine, but it's a heavy rifle. I did not have the same experience using a hand pump, but I haven't used one with the 'Claw in over a year now. It's been my most reliable air gun in terms of leaking as well. Maybe it's worth calling PA and asking them. That's reassuring. Pyramid Air says that the problem is that I did not release the air from the pump fast enough. I will see what happens next time.

I don't think your eagle claw was a mistake. About the same power in that caliber as the challenger but with lever action and better power tuner. I miss mine for sure. Mine EC came packed with grease, slowing the hammer down so much only got 40 fpe. 80 after I cleaned it out in .25. the stocks are weak so try not to drop it. Also had the same issue with it releasing the air. I believe I held it upside down when draining the pumps hose and giving it a few light taps on the ground helped. Still awesome gun though. There's a diagram online that shows thers a degassing screw but its just another screw that holds the valve in. I blew my valve into the wall at full pressure. But Maybe I wasn't supposed to take all of them out idk Yea my gauntlet came leaking in 3 different areas and it ruined my whole first day. I'm just saying AEA gets some hate from ppl about the quality but to me they are super solid guns. Everyone I've had and I've had almost all of them. I don't see AEA going anywhere anytime soon, hopefully aftermatket parts pop up like they did for the gauntlet. That's one thing I do like about the new gauntlet. Part availability and modifications.
That’s good to hear. So far the 25 carbine has not had a single issue and I have two spare valve pins on hand if it ever does. You hear about these things with a new gun like this you don’t know if it’s an inevitability or just something that’s a fluke thing on a few guns. By the way may I suggest getting poppets and other parts from the pellet shop. They are generous with information, ship fast, and don’t charge as much for parts or shipping as some of the other places I checked. You all probably already know that but it is worth mentioning. I now have a Rex p .357 to make use of the mold and rounds I bought for the Max. Another loud gun but not quite as loud. I kind of miss the magazine but the under lever action, weight /balance of the Rex p is a treat.
Looks good. What pressure did you start at more or less?On an unrelated note: The 47-50 fpe my Carbine puts out is more powerful than I give credit for I think. Shot a scrap of 2x6 and it went straight through and into the putty trap behind it. Granted it was pine and a pretty clear section of plank but I didn’t expect a Diablo pellet out of this gun to do that.
Here's the diagram for the eagle claw I believe I used. Looking at it now I definitely confused (7-1) "exhaust valve screw" to mean degassing screw Wich could have been a deadly mistake. Luckily I was holding it sideways. Had to use vice grips to get it out and when it went off I couldn't hear for about ten minutes. It was my second airgun and a very rookie mistake, but I learned to respect the power they have. Patience! And to always be safe and empty the air before you tinker with them. I couldn't post the link but if you Google seneca eagle claw and then click image search it will pop up.50 fpe is nothing to sneeze at, I wouldn't want to get hit with it. I had a .30 hp carbine up to 70 fpe reliably, so power can be increased. But that can be a massive headache aswell. Would like to own one again.a .357 Terminator would be my next one 4 sure. Also want another .357 challenger and one in 25. Sold my .357 right B4 the regs came out
50 +- FPE is plenty to take out a groundhog especially if it's headshot or vitals.I've been able to take out raccoons with my .22 caliber Marauder with headshots. Goes for squirrels too.But I have noticed that .22 caliber in the vitals they will run off less than 50 yards and drop.I can't always go find them because they went on property that is off-limits.So that's why I was thinking .25 caliber might take care of that in vitals?Unsure about going .25 because all I shoot is .22 pellets and slugs. Have to get into a whole new inventory going with .25.
Dang - your .25 Hp carbine is shooting more consistently and powerfully than mine by a fair amount. Not that it matters practically but I can’t get more than 48 fpe with 35 grain projectiles and no where near that consistency. Amazing shot string no wonder you are happy!
.25 cal ammo is getting close to bulk .22lr ammo pricing, so it can be a hard sell if you aren't casting your own.
Sorry, all if I'm opening a half-now dead thread again, but I just picked up a Carbine in 25, that I need to get some rounds through to see if the groups settle down, and I haven't had a chance to Chrony it or the HP Max SS 30 yet either. I picked up an extra 30 carbine length shroud when I go the 25 carbine for the HP Max SS and it did wonders for backyard friendliness. A couple of quick questions now that I have read through all 45-ish pages. I saw mention of single shot trays and would love to pick up a 25 and 30 cal version or at least the 3D print files so I can roll my own. I remember I believe it was Mr. P who used the stock holder to make a semi-power adjuster, need to find that page/s again as I might need to turn the 30 up a bit before the NSA slugs get here. Well, so far I very much like both of mine, so tinkering will come soon enough, any word on aftermarket or home tuning bits and pieces? I have my own lathe, so I'm up to make just about anything. Seriously considering getting a 257 barrel and turning it to fit in the 30 SS so I can swap it in for serious long-range haven't decided. Thanks all,Casey
