2008 Diana 34 - confused by a 2 screw trigger

I bumped into a used 34 yesterday, noted the 2008 date on the tube and was surprised to see two equal sized flat head screws neatly arranged in front of the plastic trigger blade.  I had expected to see only 1 screw. 

1.  Is this normal, or perhaps someone has made a switch?
2.  Is there an easy way to tell if this rifle has a Chinese barrel?

That's a T01 trigger and is correct for the date.

See if it is accurate, if it is, ¿why worry about the barrel?

Since shooting is 80% mental, if you approach the accuracy tests with doubts you will fail in seeing the true potential of your gun.

I dont think I can try before I buy though.
I do understand that every gun (and barrel) is a story unto itself, but I'd like to know what dice I'm rolling before I buy. 
I'll have to go back and give it a real look over - I didn't really get the chance yesterday.

I'm surprised that an '08 had a TO1 though.  I thought the TO5's came out earlier than that.  Again, I really don't know them.  I just try to remember what I've heard.

I believe the T05 came out in about 2000 or 2001.  I do not know when it was introduced into the 34 line.  The T05 blade looked like the new series T01 blade but only had one adjustment screw.  I believe the Chinese barrels were introduced during the run of T05 trigger guns and had been discontinued by the time Diana introduced the T06.  I do have a 34 with the T01 trigger and LOVE it.  I will admit I did have to do a bit of trigger work as originally it had a seven pound pull.  If you choose to go that route I have a set of pictures covering disassembly and reassembly.  Generally they are quite accurate and I've found my older Dianas seem to like RWS Super Dome pellets better than anything else I've tried.  I believe the German barrels have eight lands and grooves while the Chinese barrels have twelve.  Some of the Chinese barrels are phenomenally accurate, others not so much.

Thomas is correct, barrels produced by Diana have 8 lands, the outsourced barrels have 12 lands.

I can also confirm that the T01 guns were being phased out by 2000 or 2001.

I have never seen or heard of a Diana being equipped with a TO1 as late as 2008.

I would be very surprised if it had a Chinese barrel. I love the model 34s from that time period, and if it was in reasonable shape, I'd buy it on the spot, assuming the price was reasonable as well.

They are asking $180.  Seems a little much to me. Has paint scars embedded on the stock otherwise very good.

A second screw modification can be performed on a T05 trigger giving it first and second stage adjustments.  The safety will not be like the one in the initial photograph.  That safety is typical only of the T01.  The T05 and T06 safeties appear identical, they push in and out.  Given the prices I've paid recently for older Dianas your $180 sounds a bit high.  Yo could try negotiating a bit.  A bit of information - any 34 can use any of the triggers - T01, T05, or T06 can be placed in any of them as long as the appropriate piston is used with it.  At the very least your should prove that the gun can be cocked and fired.  If anything is wrong with it the gun can probably be repaired but for that price it should perform perfectly.

T06 equipped 34's available for $199 (+shipping), brand new. It is a sale price, but not much more than $180. I don't know what older Diana's are valued at.

Yeah, that's probably more than I would be willing to pay, with the conflicting information it appears you have gotten about it.

I may make an offer as I really like the old metal bladed TO1 trigger in my Model.45 (original version).  We'll see.  Its a consignment piece, so I doubt they would come down much.
I did notice that the breech seal is flush with the breech block.  Looks like it needs to be replaced.

Still - I'm itching to try it!
