.22 BB Gun. Say what!?
« on: February 22, 2021, 01:10:09 PM »
I was outside at the bench 'tinkering' when Betty Came out with a cold drink for me (Bless her heart).
She looked on the bench and said "I thought you were working on BB Guns today?"
I said "Yes dear, I am."
She said "But that says .22 cal. They don't make .22 cal. BB Guns."

This guy has been around awhile. It had a dried up piston cup in it and I just happened to have a couple new replacements for it.

Do you have to keep the muzzle up so they  don't roll out the barrel?? (NO Polkas, please...)

You can lead a man to water, but you can't keep him from urinating in it.

I wondered about that myself...
But nope, I pointed it down and shook it and the BB did not fall out.
Mind you, it don't have the velocity of a pellet. The is no skirt to expand. But evidently, they are big enough that the lands hold them into the barrel.

These are also pure lead round balls so they won't damage the rifling and mushroom on impact.

Not a bb gun. A round ball gun. Bb's are 171 to 173 and made of steel. A .177 lead round ball will not work in a bb gun even if the say they are .177

You're probably right, I have no idea but, these do pretty good in this 2200 magnum .22 pellet gun.
Pretty sure I wouldn't want to be on the business end of it.

My Excellent CII K 5.4mm round ball. I mill my own balls to shoot. A unusual airgun from Sweden. This one is from the 1940's

I ended up with an old (free) Kesser .22 barrel it is ~20.37" long and like Crosman 1322 is .4375 in diameter... The rifling... well it looks like  light streaks of rust...Have given some thought to seeing how well it would do as a round ball .22 barrel for 13xx..?

since the barrel is such  shape was thinking if needed would use a ramrod to seat the ball and swage it to the barrel if necessary.. ;)

Couldn't hurt that one too much. I might run a brass brush and some WD 40 through it.

They’re a lot of fun if you have an airgun that shoots them accurately.
I have one 392 that likes them, but my other 392... not so much.

Those pics are after a good soak with PB Blaster and some tight patches... then some .22 CPUM pushed thru...

The ramrod Idea came from having read that the Gamo round ball can be inconsistent in size...

Oh I did find a source for a .22(F shot size) mold.. ;)   https://www.thereloadersnetwork.com/product/round-ball-molds-inch-sizes/

I have one Crosman 114 that groups the Gamo round balls fairly well.  In my other .22s, they are all over the place.

The link for the molds is interesting, needs a closer look...

Thanks for the link on the molds! I see they have a .180 mold too.

I’ve got several pump rifles that shoot the .177 gamo round balls very accurately at 580 to just over 600 FPS.

Hhhmmmm... I need to mike some 22 and .177 gamo round balls to compare. :D

I'm very tempted to get one of these .220 molds.  I have long wondered how a precision round ball would shoot in some of my guns.  I like to try new things.  The Gamo rounds are lumpy and bumpy, very inconsistent with high and low spots all over them.  This would give me something to do with my reclaimed pellets, of which I currently have several pounds.
