Next years HOF vote? How to get more people to vote?

To Vote is an option We all have.
You Vote or you don't.
Forcing anyone to Vote in any manor is intrusion into that basic choice.
This thread is ALSO not the place to discuss things like this.
Someone start a new tread on next years voting if need be.
Don't take away the Honors from this years HOF.

Maybe there could be an option which would opt-out of voting and stop the pop-up though.

Although the forum boasts thousands of members it is obvious few actively participate.  It is possible the bulk of these do not feel comfortable voting in an election where they may not have followed who has done what in the preceding year.  That would be the silent majority.  They may not participate because they are shy or perhaps they think they have nothing to add.  Perhaps they only follow the forum to learn from others.  I don't know the solution to the problem of attracting more voters but strongly suspect it lies in getting greater member participation overall.

I firmly believe it should be changed from Hall of Fame to Person of the year voting.
Hall of Fame should be done as it was this year with Lloyd Voted in.
Not trying to take away from the Nominated people this year but really.
More Person of the year then Hall of Fame.

Though I am here daily, (for the last few months) I do not feel I know anyone well enough to vote anyone into some Hall Of Fame,.. assuming that what HOF is. Some people here seem quite familiar with each other where as 99% are not. A bit like a board of directors voting amongst themselves, when the rest of us are just common folk. My 2 cents.

Agree with Jeff,

some of us have no interest to partecipate into certaing things, why should be forced to vote ?

There it is RIGHT THERE ..... To state we have XX thousands of members and forum has never seen such growth in the history of the GTA is kinda misleading.
Not sure what others think, but for me knowing this forum does NOT allow much in information gathering until you become a "Member" & that pretty much places the cart ahead of the horse. With every new member who is looking for information and little else being part of the head count the voter numbers will never look good.

IMO, if the GTA was to be brutally honest it's Membership absolutely should be weighed as THOSE WHO ACTIVELY ENGAGE in conversation and have done so within the last couple years to be considered AG enthusiasts  ( perhaps a tad longer or less ) 
* Nothing wrong with hanging out and saying nothing ( posting ) but to think these silent members are going to vote for others who they have had little too no conversation with ... likely not.

So if someone looked at ALL the members and counted how many of them have made lets say no less than 10-20 posts in the last couple years or so .... There is your REAL membership IMO.

Having HOF voting nearing +/- 150 votes is likely a good turnout voted on my those who are HERE Present and know who the candidates are and there contributions to the forum content or management etc ...

NO! That is my option to partake or not.

Don't turn GTA into a 'FaceBook' type clone where one has no options.

And I do agree with Scott's break down.

I also stand behind my statement that this year is a Person of the Year vote.

2 of the people being voted on I have met face to face.
Shared meals with and shot with.
The other 2 I have never had the chance.
Should Lloyd been thrown in the vote? We all know who would have won this year!

I agree that many may not think they know enough of the nominees to vote, but I also think many did not read or understand about voting for the one that may have helped them or that they have seen busy on the GTA. Maybe the options should be vote or to select to opt out with or without an explanation, just to get a better grasp on why?

I have been a member for almost 7 years, I don't post a lot but have not missed a day when I have not viewed the forum, usually 3 to 6 times a day. So for me It's easy to see who goes out of their way to help and contribute their knowledge and experience. BUT how many members are that active?
My Suggestion would be to have a profile of the Final Candidates so members can have a better idea of who they might vote for. This is a very deserving tribute to those that have gone above and beyond to help members that need it. It's only fair to them to let the members know just how good they are thru a little profile of the final four.

Some folks don't come here to 'socialize'. Many use the forum for a source of information. Google is a great way to seek out that info without sifting through the gates. Just add "Gateway to Airguns" in your Google search.
I also agree that there is a difference in Hall of Fame and Person of the Year. I believe I brought this up last year.
Person of the Year should be awarded to someone who goes out of their way to help our members get the most from their airgunning experience throughout the year and voted on by those members.
Hall of Fame should be selected by staff from a list of our old timers who have taken part in making our forum what it is today. Hall of Fame induction should not be a yearly event.

I use google's advance SITE search. It works pretty well with key words.
Type site:gatewaytoairguns.org followed by a space and key words

Perhaps there could be some way to turn voting rights into a "privilege" rather than an "obligation"?

Or some minimum post threshold before "qualifying" to vote as mentioned above?

After all, we have minimum requirements before we can join (New Member Intro must first be posted), and before we can post to the Classifieds, etc.

If it is perceived to be "desirable" enough, then perhaps more would seek to qualify for this privilege...

Yes. That's your opinion and you know what is said about those.
Many of us are subjected at times to your "less then desirable" opinions.
But you are allowed to continue to skate the fringes of the rules at GTA.
I think you get a tingly thrill in the Man Parts from doing so.

Being a new member here, a year thereabouts... what some have said here is true. How well do I as a newer member here know about the people who have been nominated and am I comfortable with what I know to vote?  My activity comes in surges. Family, work, parents, or like the last two weeks... vacation. I am just recently to the point where I am branching out to other areas of the forum where i get exposure to everyone.

I voted, and i was a little nervous about doing so. But I chose to vote. Having spent the last two weeks researching and exploring various areas of the forum, I was exposed to a lot of people in a lot of different places and I felt comfortable enough to do so. Many newer members may not?

I thought the "Vote" thread at the top of the forum pages was a perfect way of letting people know while allowing the option to participate or not. It is how I learned about it.

Logically, if they couldn't care less they probably wouldn't comment that they could care less. They have some measure of care so they do comment! Or do they just want us to know they are close to not caring?  This always confuses me.
