Thanks, but worry not Archie, once upon a time I was a pretty good shot. Now age has begun to make it more difficult to shoot offhanded.

Offhand lets a springer show accuracy especially when not having time to look for a rest.

For example the springer D54 I shoot in .20. A heavy rifle, but not far from the HW98. Either model to me is outstanding offhand without trying to see what they do with targets and multiple shots in a bench type rest or whatever.

The PCP Daystate I got recently in .177 (Huntsman) is the most reliable unregulated PCP I have ever owned since RAW and FX BOSS .30 and Theoben Rapid .25.

But it is in my mind an updated PCP anyway because it's been time before I came back on board the PCP realm. This is a rifle not taylored as a springer in function but PCPs will outdo springers pretty much most of the time in some kind of narrowed competition revolving around range and power.

Offhand shooting eliminates all other questions except the ones about YOU holding the rifle and that makes a springer's work much simpler. Once it is sighted in offhand you'll find it is the best sight in procedure for any of your springers. Once you can hit at 10 yards with open sights offhand with your springer you'll see how to adjust your open sights if they are off.

You can actually be assured any rifle scoped or not can be sighted in offhand with you shooting and getting better results for a "zero" when using stabilizing methods like bipods or sand bags.

Sight in ALL your rifles offhand; then make adjustments to them as time moves along. No need for a chrony or paper targets at all, just sight them in offhand to hit a 1.5" disc at 25 yards like I do and everything else always falls into place without cleaning the bore or thinking I'm off.

Really great to see such generously and a fine gift especially after witnessing some of the greed of some users in the bargain gate forums of users buying up many limited rifles with the sole intention of profit knowing full well there were many members looking to obtain a single one for personal use.

I'll be giving away my air rifles that led to the D54 and HW98s until the Daystate Huntsman kicks the last rifle out.

It's only (the Daystate) in .177 and I've never before enjoyed a PCP as much.

Maybe in .22 it's better.

But I'm content with it in .177 the rest of my terra firma walk to check me and satisfy me.

You see, I love springers and the Daystate Huntsman makes me love springers more.

I can't comment on the HW98 as I don't have one but the HW50 is a joy to shoot.

I enjoy a .177 Hawke scoped HW50S and am awaiting another, paid for 3 weeks ago, .177 HW50S from AoA. I shall put a Williams Peep Sight on this second 50S and contemplate installing a JM kit after her, now belated, arrival.

I had, (and still have), a headache yesterday along with cold symptoms so I only shot these two paper targets yesterday. I haven't shot at long distances yet Yogi I'm happy shooting at 25 yds. I'm building my confidence and trying to consistently shoot 1/2" groups at 25 yards before moving out to farther distances.

I was curious as to how the HW50 would respond to cheap Walmart pellets so these groups are definitely not the best. The target backing is completely shot out. I need to replace it so pardon for the closed holes on these shots.

(The Crosman pellets produced a lot of flyers but not surprising due to the variations in skirt diameter and weight. These pellets were not sorted straight out of the tin.)

Thanks for your concern, it's not a dry cough, actually quite the opposite. I or rather we have been sheltering in place for months. We haven't been around anyone lately.

I shoot many different types and brands of pellets when I'm trying to determine the best for a particular air rifle. So sure I have targets that I would never post. I usually post the better of the targets I shoot and I bet that can be said of most here.

That’s still pretty darn good shooting. I have sorted a couple tins of 7.9 CPHP and there was a lot of size variation with the biggest majority being 4.50. I go back and forth between the 50 and the 95 for my next gun so I will be interested in reading your comparison of the two.
Since you have been sheltering in place I’m guessing/hoping it’s not COVID-19.
