..... and then came the rains.
Yeah it's a dreary day here in Shootersville, Al. The somewhat sunny humid morning gave way to the large slow drops of rain and that deep belly roll thunder. No wind yet but Riley Blackwell says I should expect some later.
According to Rambo, it's the kinda day you don't want to go strolling through a creepy cemetary.. or anywhere else that requires leaving his dog bed for that matter.

Good morning PST to all, I have need up for a few hours. I have some bills to pay and some mowing and string trimming that needs to get done today or tomorrow.
I didn't post yesterday so I'll catch up. As we were working on the 95 Chevy van Saturday my daughter came out of the house hysterical, she had just gotten a phone call from Idaho telling her that one of her son-in-laws was killed when his car fell on him while he was working under it. That message came from his friend that was there helping him when it happened. We prayed, hoping it wasn't true. The responders took him away in an ambulance with no pulse and not breathing. I am not sure how long he wasn't breathing and had no pulse but it was quite a few minutes, but on the way to the hospital he suddenly sat up and was confused as to what happened. He gradually remembered though, he remembers the crushing weight and not being able to breath, then having peace and just feeling like to go to sleep. His friend says it took 5 minutes for him to get the car lifted off of him.
At the hospital they checked him out and found no severe injuries and no broken bones. He has lots of bruising and is in a lot of pain still but has no apparent lasting effects from having had oxygen depravation. He was released to go home from the Trauma unit about 6 hours later.
What an emotional rollercoaster that was.
It made me hurt to think about it, and things like this are why jacks should never be trusted alone.

Yeah, not the story you want to hear while you're laying under a vehicle working on it.
Glad he's ok.

Whoa, that is scary stuff. I'm glad he is OK. I'll bet he never goes under another car supported only by a jack. I remember doing that many times when I was a youngster but each year I got a little more careful.

Yeah, not the story you want to hear while you're laying under a vehicle working on it.
Glad he's ok.
I grew up around auto shops and safety was drilled into me along with redundant safety, I have always used multiple supports and have the vehicle resting solidly on the stands, not hovering over them.
When I was in second grade my dad had our car fall trapping his forearm elbow to wrist between the car frame and the ground for about a half hour until my uncle came out to see how it was going. It's mazing that dad's arm bone made a great jack stand without snapping.
I learned from my dad and never forgot that lesson.

Road trip for zoo food, been holding off due to weather, it's now or never. Piddled in the garden, picked more strawberries, thinned out the mustards and turnips. Moved pot bound plants into bigger pots until planting spots are cleared and prepped for planting. Grind up brush to fill up 25gal pots so it won't take to much soil to fill them up plus it will create compost to keep whatever is planted in them happy.

I'm gonna' mow the yard when it warms up a bit. I might shoot some pellets after that if the wind lays down.

I got up at 6:00 AM
I didn't plan but... I sorted and cleaned up some rusty tools I inherited, then I went and bought new blades for the Lawn tractor, came home, installed them and mowed until dark. It is going to rain the next two days, again...
I know we still need more rain so I am not really complaining. Today the weather was near perfect, it started off 43°F and was sunny and the high was 70°F and the "wind" was just a 1-4 mph breeze.

Kicked back in the recliner and managed to doze for 20 minutes or so. Then I got up and showered and got another half 20 oz. mug of coffee... had to reset the auto shutoff so it would be hot for Betty Lou when she gets up.
This pot has a fixed setting to shut off after 2 hours. Our last one had an adjustable shut off at up to 4 hours.
Betty Lou had to train me to reset this one for her....
Anyways... I think I'll head on out to the Red Shed... I want to make a few upgrades to my target/backstop for more shooting options.
I also have visions of moving more of the airgun related (tools and bits) from the bar/mancave to the Red Shed. But a mere vision is possibly what it will remain to be....
These things take time.
No rain predicted for today.. temps in the low 70s. I need to take advantage of this weather... won't be long before the sweat begins rolling into uncomfortable cracks and crevasses.

I got 3 bags of Perlite from Home Depot to put in my shooting bags. I just got one and the other two have kitty litter in them. Too heavy to haul all my shooting gear, gotta lighten the load.
I will have a mask on as some shooters have said it is a very fine dust that comes out as well.

Up at daylight, yep the yard is soaked again, 2.5 inches of rain yesterday. So I have so projects that need finishing can be done in the shop. It is cooler here this morning so that is a plus. Just take the day as it comes.
