I remember those days of wondering how far I’d make it on the reserve.
The Mullet Festival was a big success. The antique farm wagon was a hit and attracted a lot of attention. Which is what it was there for. I’m developing a good program and the visitor’s response was positive. The winch on our flatbed was unserviceable so we had to manhandle it off and on the trailer. Thank goodness for the help of enthusiastic volunteers! Now the whole shebang is parked under the tractor barn. The memsahib is curled up in her chair and I am perched on my stool exhausted but very satisfied.

I'm goin to bed, catch a couple hours of sleep, get up early, pick up one of the kids and some belongings, drive from NH to New Jersey, pick up some more random kid stuff at a storage unit, drop him off with his stuff in NYC and then drive myself back to NH. I might be napping on the side of the road somewhere before I get home. No AGs tomorrow.

I got a young friend that asked me about a springer to shoot some of the squirrels on his 8 acre property. I've been tinkering with an older Walther Force 1000 and it shoots great and has plenty of power. For me it's a heavy gun but Nick is young and quite healthy. He is supposed to stop by today and check it out to see if it will work for him.

As usual I'm a day late
Had to make sure plans went as planned
Went to work, to cut my first load of firewood, packed nice and tight to fit as much as possible under the tonneau cover, had to leave my fuel and oil behind, but had room for the saw.
from 12:30 on It was bow hunting for deer and turkey, well I had a buck come out of the woods right after I parked, and was putting on my heavy jacket, crossbow still in the case
Finished getting my gear together, and found a spot to sit. Oh look the buck is down on the other end of the field, I give a doe bleat, and he comes running to me, goes past my tripod stand that I did not use, due to wind direction, then as I prepare to get him in my sights and hope to make him stop, he gets between me and my truck and kept going, 15 yards was darn close.
Later I had 6 Turkey stroll on by, they were scrawny hens, but they did feed 10 yards from me for about 15 minutes, and was hard to get a clear shot with out them spotting me.
I was getting ready to head out about 3:30 but thought I would kick myself for leaving when deer are known to still come into the area, and I was right I heard traffic slow and horns blow from both directions of travel, this is a sign deer are on the way.
I was right another 10 point buck showed himself midway down the feild, I gave a call, and just like whisteling for a dog he came a running my way, popped out where I was expecting 10 yards infront of me, by the time I got my eye to the scope he was gone, I think we have ninja deer
I do think if I had a deer decoy out I would of managed to bag at lest one of them. Back to the drawing board, yes I am going to draw a decoy out of heavy cardboard.

Good morning GTA! Happy Monday! Up around 0500 CST. It’s cold outside, supposed to get a little more snow tonight. I really wasn’t ready for winter yet, it would have been nice to have some more 60*s and 50*s first. I don’t have a first job yet, I’ll have to call the office. So, I’ll have another coffee, I suppose.

Morning...
I was the first up this morning. I guess the cold has everyone snuggled in.
It's 30* and headed for a high of 60* today.
I turned all 3 bricks on in the propane wall heater and jumping in a hot shower while the coffee maker did it's things. Rambo finally ambled out of the bedroom when I came out of the shower. He ate and went out but didn't stay out too long. He came back in and went back to bed. Boss and Betty Lou have yet to even move.
Looks like mid to upper 50s all week with some rain expected tomorrow.
The plan is to back the big trailer up to the red building and start pulling smaller stuff out so I can get to the wall I want to cut the 7' door in. Then I can start working on getting the bigger stuff out (hot tub and tanning bed).

Carl, I like 40ºF to start a squirrel hunt. We had 23ºF at sunrise and that is a little too cold for my liking. I will go when the temperature reaches about 32ºF.

Up at 0730 where it's a nice(?) 23 degrees out. Let the pack out but most wanted back in within 20 min🥶🥶
The 2 youngins wanted right back out after getting a drink of water and are hanging out on the front porch. Cut down 3 trees yesterday but my chain saw chain was too dull to continue stripping branches off of the trunks. Had 2 chains but haven't seen the extra since I sent it in to be sharpened along with 6 of the chains for my wife's echo 12". Won't use the wife's saw because if anything goes wrong with it I'll never hear the end of it.

Good Morning GTA, after being up 20 hours yesterday I slept about 6 altogether.
I have to go get blood drawn for bi-annual lab work ordered by my cardiologist last visit, so nothing to eat or drink until that gets done. After the lab I am going to eat breakfast and the go to the outlet mall with my wife. Hopefully she will find what she wants quickly so it doesn't drag too long. Where's the praying hands emoji, LOL.
We have been getting down to about 38°F and had highs of mid 60's there are 2 days in the 10 day forecast that are suppose to got to 71-72°F, and no rain is forecast in the 10 day.

Halfway through a workday- doing an oddball conversion for one of my Maryland customers and things went south quick.
I have a mower and axe to drop off with a friend after work. I replaced the handle (another Kelly Perfect axe!) with a Bahco and I'm sold. I doubt I ever buy another brand of axe handle. The mower is a walk-behind Husq and it was hydro-locked on account the carb float was stuck open. The oil sump was probably a 2:1 mix of gas to oil
:- The owner of the mower had it sitting out behind his shed for a few years- luckily the entire fuel system was bone dry... since it all drained into the oil!
The Husqvarna runs great now with an unstuck float, fresh fuel... It starts with half a pull on the recoil cord, and the 2-speed drive works fine. Best news: I was given 2 free push mowers for my efforts. I already have one running great; the other may need the choke cleaned or it may need a carb.

Productive morning..
I got the 7' wide door cut in the side of the Red building. There was 1/4 luan on the inside, then insulation. Next was 1 x 8 ruff sawn vertical boards and then vertical metal roofing sheets. Plus there was a double hung aluminum standard size window in the middle. And wouldn't you know, the glass broke first
. So Betty Lou helped clean that up and then we began hauling stuff out. First was that old tanning bed. We ran a strap to the Kodiak 450 and Betty Lou dragged it out. We wrestled it up onto the trailer and loaded a boatload of other stuff.
I wouldn't even know how to begin describing the stuff we are pulling out of there. Mostly trash and junk.
And the smell... holy moly it stinks. I lifted the cover on the hot tub and it's full of water. I was surprised though because it's crystal clear water clean to the bottom.
My 7 x 16 ATV trailer is full and we ain't even half done. I checked the landfill this morning and it's gonna cost me $20 per trailer load. It's free on the 2nd Saturday of each month but I missed that this month and I ain't waiting another. I figure 3 loads total to the dump.
The hottub seems to be in good shape so we'll drain it, take it apart and store it down in the barn in case anyone wants it.
I covered the lower half of the door opening to keep the dogs out and left the top open to let it air out some. That building has been shut up for years with that junk and dampness in there. The floor is a good 4 inches of marble and quarter size gravel.
The wall mount propane heater appears to be connected to our large propane tank that feeds the house and runs underground. All the walls have 2 or 3 outlets wired in and there are 4 bulb 4' florescent lights above. I just need to locate the run to the electric box outside and reconnect it.
It was a good day but I'm beat. Back at it tomorrow.. I got the rest of my life..

47 degrees this a.m. Expecting the same tomorrow. I’m loading the truck this evening in preparation for a long day small game hunting Tuesday. Before dawn Flash and I will be headed for Bradwell WMA. For years it was old man Ed Bradwell’s private hunting preserve. Now it’s open to limited quota hunts for deer and two weeks each season for small game. There are big stands of old growth timber along the river floodplain. Trees so tall that I have shot a squirrel out of the top of one and reloaded my break barrel springer before it hit the ground.
It’s not a place that gets a lot of small game hunting so I’m expecting a good day.

Good morning GTA! Happy Tuesday! Up at 0430 CST. We got a few inches of snow last night, but I don’t think it stuck on the roads. It was a heavy wet snow and I’ve got thin tree branches drooping to the ground, ones I could normally walk under. And under the big trees I can still see the grass, with the temperature still above freezing- it’s just strange. It’s 2 hours to my first job, but I’ll wait til daylight to roll out.
Happy hunting to you, Carter!
