You guys are some really impressive marksmen. Didn't get another chance to shoot but a 5X isn't out of the question. That will give me something to aim for.  ;)

I haven't found a slug to barrel combination for any of my guns that group worth a hoot, of course I haven't tried that many.
Tell us more about your slugs. I'm assuming you cast your own?

I made a mistake and my bullet is a 31-151G.  http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=31-151G-D.png
It's form factor is very close to that of the .257 Ranch Dawg designed by a buddy down here in Texas.  As a hollow point hunting round it is devastating on feral hogs we hunt. So when I moved to the .308 platform I first used NSA's 128gr hollow points with good success. The problem was the 128gr didn't produce a legal amount of FPE for deer without going supersonic. So I started looking of a similar slug to the Ranch Dog in a 308 and the 31-151g was as proportionally close as I could find. I sent the mold of to Erik for an inset hollow point.  I couldn't be happier with the accuracy and how hard this thing hits down range. I have a 1/4" plate steel spinner set up at 100 yards and this gun literally puts a 1/16" pivot in it! The mold is gas checked and i believe it acts like a boat tail at sub-sonic speeds.

I will say that sizing and lube are key factors in keeping groups tight. I use wd40 dry lube by coating the bullets and then letting them dry. I also found .3085" is optimal for my gun. I might add the gun spits these slugs out right around 1020 fps on the first and second shot producing right at 320 FPE at the muzzle and 230 FPE at 100 yards.

Thanks for the update on your slug choice and information. I know shooting with that much power uses a lot of air, can you shoot a 5 shot group like that on one fill? Or do you have to keep the gun hooked to the SCBA tank for groups?

That's some crazy power in the .308 caliber range. I had an older Dragon Slayer in .50 cal. It was fun but way to loud for my taste. I shot the 180 grain round balls out of it. I could get close to 720 fps with the first shot or two then it steadily dropped off. Wish I had kept it.

Match #8 is closed signaling the last match for 2020. The final results are listed in the first post.

This has been one of the best matches yet, score and participation wise. Excellent shooting everyone and I hope everyone comes back next year to do it again. Thanks to all for your participation.

Note... In he future only unaltered GTA targets designed for this match will be accepted as an entry.

Marty

I too want to thank you for all the work that goes into running and maintaining all the NUAH monthly challenges. It is clear that there is a healthy following and people really enjoy sharing information and learnings.

Look forward to next year and make sure that we move Jimmy back to 125 yards so the rest of us have a fighting chance and can try and keep up.  That Boss in his hands is deadly!

Haha, same here Tom. Thanks for all you do for us Marty.

And all you have to do is make sure I shoot in 5 to 10 mph winds and you guys won't have any trouble at all beating me. But hey Tom, you already have. That killer 50/50 4x you shot a match or two back was quite impressive!

I just want a .22 cal that can keep up? I don't have a .22 that can keep up with you guys? Or even a .25? LOL

Marty, I have a friend who wants to join in the fun with us next year,  but he's not allowed to take pictures at his range. It's a huge indoor 100 yd shooting range with 30 lanes. He can only take pictures of the targets when he gets home or leaves the building. I know shooting indoors is an advantage, but heck I wait till calm weather and even shoot at night to dodge the winds. I think it would just be cool to see what he does on a month to month basis.

I understand if others think it's not fair, but heck I just like to see us push the limits. Maybe have an indoor division?

He shot this ten shot group indoors at 100 with his .22 Taipan back in 2018

There is absolutely NO requirement that this match be shot outdoors.

Advantages are advantages. Itís no different than shooting a larger caliber, using slugs, setting up next to a wind break, or getting up in the middle of the night when the winds are slack, no rules against any of them. Have at it.

Thanks, he was just worried he couldn't enter because he's not allowed to photo his setup at the range?

Thatís some nice group at 100 yards.  Iím glad the rules do support either indoor or outdoors, as the whole concept of NUAH as explained to me was to encourage a friendly casual competition.

As an aside ( Jimmy, you are already aware of this ) and for others on this forum, there are already a number of virtual 75 and 100 yard EBR virtual informal competitions on the AGN forum.  The intent there is also to provide a way for members to participate in distance bench rest shooting events.

My point here is that itís all fun and the more that join up and participate, the better for all of us.

Like Blue said " there's no requirement that this match be shot outdoors". Also you don't need a picture of the range for this match(NUAH Club yes, 100 Yard match no), its only a recommendation.

If there is a lot of opposition it could come up to a member vote to create a new rule though.

I have no problem with a target being shot indoors.

The only tweak I might like some discussion on over this winter would be something to level the field a bit. This season especially there have been times I have felt, shall we say, under equipped I guess.

Itís not that my setup is basic or low end (anymore) but going up against multi thousand dollar rigs, big (or at least bigger for .25) calibers, and highly tuned slug shooters had me drop out for the last round.  I can shoot a 50/50 on a good day, every once in a while, maybe, but not often.

I know we tried to address multi caliber fairness when we designed the rules which is why we score out instead of in but maybe itís time to revisit.

Iím not suggesting a different target or distance but maybe a handicap system that says if you score a 50/50 card, regardless of where you place in the round, you have to move back xx yards for the next round.  I donít know, this is where Iíd love to hear some discussion.  I played in a golf tournament years ago that had a rule stating if you scored a birdie on a hole you moved back one tee position to start the next hole.

Donít get me wrong, Iím saving for one of those ďyou paid how much for a pellet gunĒ guns and should be upgrading my equipment sometime next summer so Iíll be feeling different soon.  I just know that from the perspective of someone who has a lower end setup (gen 2 marauder, MMHF barrel, JSAR SS2 valve, Lane reg, Hill hammer, etc.) I didnít feel like I could really compete this year.

p.s. I really want to figure out some kind of blind score system too, where no one sees anyone elseís score until the results get posted. I donít know how that would work and itís for another discussion possibly, but I think that would be exciting!

Thanks for the heads up Marty, and Tom and Blue.
I'll let him know. He used to come over and shoot with me all the time before he retired and moved to Virginia. I watched him shoot three grapes in a row at hundred yards from my back yard with his Taipan right before he retired. Maybe next time he's down to NC , we can get him entered in the NUAH club as well.

Blue, I've seen some pretty sweet shooting Marauders. I had a Gen 1 tuned by Greg Davis with a barrel from Jim Gaska. Sold it to a friend who was just starting out in FT back 2016. He won the 2019 Hunter Division in the Nationals with it. Daystate is sponsoring him now with a fancy Red Wolf. I think the covid &^^& put a damper on the Nats this year? Hoping he will give me first dibs if he ever sells the old Marauder.

As for the 50/50 scores, it's starting to be more of the norm than not. Lots of folks are doing it. I guess the only thing that knocks out the fairness, is some have to go to an outdoor range and shoot in the weather that's presented to them. I have the opportunity to shoot in my back yard and I shoot when the wind has died down and lots of times at night. I shoot 10 or 12 targets and cherry pick the best. I try to show the other targets I shoot to show the good with the bad.

I don't really want to move out distance wise and deal with rezeroing etc from match to match. I leave it zeroed at 100 just for 100 yd shooting.

I've got a custom Cricket Mini converted to .25 cal by Derrick Wall heading this way. She's shooting the 34.95 grain at 910 fps. Hope to start off next year with it.

Here's a pic of Philip with the old Marauder! My hero. He started out shooting FT with a cheap springer and once I talked him into buying my Marauder and a tank, he stuck with it and I consider him one of the best now.

Yeah, I donít know if there even IS an answer or if I just have my cranky pants on this morning but Iím hoping we could brain storm a little over the off season.  Other ideas I had but donít know how details would work are; caliber groups or even bore category groups (small bore, mid bore, large bore), or energy groupings (under or over X FPE or X FPE to X FPE).

I donít want to over complicate things because it IS still FUN, I just donít think I can COMPETE in the current configuration.

I'll try to compete with my less competitive guns in the mix if it will make ya feel better!!!!LOL That darn Boss makes it to easy! I just never had a gun that could do it? You guys with the .22 cals and busting 50/50 are my heroes.

I gotta feeling when Chan get's on here with his Taipan we're gonna see a 50/50 5x in .22 cal for sure!

I donít personally mind indoors/ outdoors or any caliber. Its everyone personal decision.
Open rules give chance most of people attend. This is just for fun.
I personally want shoot same as everyone else.
Only way see where your equipment and skill level is.

For this mach Fussel was best for .30 cal. Me .25 and Tommy for .22. We all are winners.
If someday can beat with .22 to .25 or with .25 to .30 even better.

Ps. Made some mods to WC. Test shot three  targets at 55yd.
2x dreamline 17cc plenums, huma reg with large plenum (70cc total) and barrel support. Its with .22 jsb redesigned. One with 18gr

IMO, until we have multiple shooters shooting 50/50 - 5X, and therefore ties, we don't need to even consider changing the rules for the Matches.... If guys want to show they are better than the other "Masters", then back up and shoot at longer range, this is provided for in the current NUAH rules.... For example, we have only ONE Master who has qualified at over 100 yds, and that is Doug Noble (dyotat100), who qualified at 200 yds....

Good grief, I just pulled up Doug's post. 1.25" at 200....holy cow! He's in Master class to the 2nd power! Won't ever see that done with a pellet though!

And great shooting with your modified cat Jari!
