My uncle sent his childhood post war 1946 Daisy Red Ryder to me to teach gun safety and target shooting to the grandkids. Like my own 60's era Daisy Model 99, the stock was too long for them. So with a couple board feet of 1x6 Poplar from Home Depot and a couple day's work in the shop, I made a "Red Ryder Jr" stock with a 10.5" pull. This lets me keep the original intact by storing the original stock for the future. I did the same for my Model 99 but started with a used stock I cut down. The Red Ryder stock is much thinner and easier to build from scratch. Here is the timelapse:

Nice looking stock you made. It was surprising how many little slots and holes you had to make. It wasn't as easy as cutting it out and screwing it on.

Les, Truly a joy to watch. The old saying " it is better to give than to receive" is evident in this video. The satisfaction is inherent within the task.

Very well done!
I enjoyed the music, too.

Thanks all.
The shorter stock makes a big difference. The two Daisy guns now fit the 6 and 8 year olds. However neither comb is high enough for a proper cheek weld. But that is the original Daisy designed stock. If I did it over, I'd have raised the comb. A pad will have to do.
Funny story, the 8 year old is learning American History this semester. I set up a course of 4 trees and 4 targets for her to move and shoot from. While lining up her shot from one tree, she said "I feel like I am fighting the British. I'm going to try and shoot the general." After she shot, I announced "You missed the General". Without missing a beat, she replied "Yes but I hit one of his Squires." True story.
