Well....I got the two Chippers this morning and that was it for the day.


I spent the afternoon bee-bop-ing around with my wife and did not get home until around 5 pm CDT.

After we got back, I went out to fertilize some of my wife's gardens and I had a Chipper pop out of the fence line at about 7 yards.

It would have been an easy shot with the umarex, but all I had in my hand at the time was the water hose, all hooked up with the fertilizer attachment.

I tried my hand at drowning it with the water hose... but.....That Didn't Work.

Although ..it did a good dose of "Miracle-Grow".

It will probably be a lot bigger the next time I see it.

It started raining around 6:30 and I packed it in for the day.

I got church tomorrow and I am not sure if I'll be doing any shooting afterwards.

Maybe so and maybe not.

Say Buddy.....I just read your post in "What Did You Shoot Today" and I have a question for you.
How does your Winchester 1977 stack up against your 880 ?    What are your Pros and Cons about those two.
When this Umarex, that I have, goes "Kaput".... 
If and when it does, then I am thinking about replacing it with a Winchester 1977 or an 880.
Is the Winchester better than an 880 ?
What are your ideas?

The “new” Winchester 1977xs is rated at 1000FPS. and gets 800 FPS. on 10 pumps with 7.4 and 7.9 gr. pellets.
6 pumps is about 700 FPS. with the same pellets, so it matches the 880 at 6 pumps and the 397 at 10 pumps.

Mine has been super accurate with daisy flat nose pellets” made in Spain”.
It has a flat head piston and a coil steel spring instead of the old elastomer sprung of the 880.

If there’s a con side to it, it would be the pump assembly actually slides on square nylon wheels instead of the round ones like the 880, so pumping effort is between the 880 and the 397.
The trigger is a bit harder than the 880, but smooths out with use. I think it has a stiffer trigger spring than the 880.
The stiff pumping smooths out a bit with use, but it will never equal the smooth pumping of a 880 in that regard... still much easier than a 397 though.
 
I don’t think you can buy a better rifle for the money... out of the box it’s already what folks try to mod the 880 into and every bit the equal of my 397.
In my opinion, Daisy came out with a real winner with the “new 1977 “.

Btw, a lot of internal parts interchange with 880 parts, except the pump head assembly and abutment, square wheels, stronger pump handle.
So far the power parts are not available from Daisy, but are supposed to become available.
Probably due to the “virus” thing.

Mine has become my go to shooter and small game hunter.... I love it!!
I really like the thumbhole stock for off hand shooting.

you stated in a previous post that you were in the garage keeping a lookout for chippers, but stopped when your wife came home as you took in the groceries. that, my friend, told me what kind of a man you are, and we need more men to be like that. i am involved in a couple mentoring programs at my church - there are too many young men that need someone to look to for guidance and direction. sometimes, i need someone, too.

I got a Chipper yesterday, it was standing on a log, and I shot it from a standing position while stationary. I used my Diana's iron sights and got in the mid-section.

Placed an order for a Flashpup with a scope, as I want to leave the Diana the way it is.

Hi Supreet.

Yes I fill in the holes.   There are fewer and fewer chippers around these days.   
All my efforts have made an impact on the Chippers. I have only eliminated about three since my last post.

I also have a NEW Weapon in my arsenal.  Tater ( Jerry) sent me a chipmunk trap.  I caught a Chipper in it today.
Like everyone else I have things to do during the day. This new trap is really going to help.
I don't have to be watching all the time now with the trap that Tater sent me.

I went out Garage Sale shopping with my wife today
When I returned, I had another Chipper in the trap that Tater sent me. 
That makes two that I have been able to trap. Thank you again Jerry.
While out Garage Sale shopping, I picked up another Chipmunk trap.
The garage sale one is older, but it still works OK.
They are both identical traps. So now I have two of them.
